On profinite groups with Engel-like conditions
Let $G$ be a profinite group in which for every element $x\in G$ there exists a natural number $q=q(x)$ such that $x^q$ is Engel. We show that $G$ is locally virtually nilpotent. Further, let $p$ be a prime and $G$ a finitely generated profinite group in which for every $ _k$-value $x\in G$ there exists a natural $p$-power $q=q(x)$ such that $x^q$ is ...

Analysis of incomplete remission cases in post-surgery patients with focal drug-resistant epilepsy
Background. Epilepsy surgery is mainly aimed at removing patient seizures. Despite the high efficiency of surgical treatment, a search for probable predictors of adverse outcomes and the analysis of the quality of life (QoL) in patients attempted to be ...

Rank-Engel conditions on linear groups [PDF]
AbstractWe study linear groups G for which for every g in G there exists a subgroup E of G satisfying some sort of rank condition and such that for every x in G there is a positive integer m such that for all n ≥ m the repeated commutator [x, ng] lies in E. If E can always be chosen to be a Chernikov group (resp.

Semi-nonparametric IV estimation of shape-invariant Engel curves [PDF]
This paper studies a shape-invariant Engel curve system with endogenous total expenditure, in which the shape-invariant specification involves a common shift parameter for each demographic group in a pooled system of nonparametric Engel curves.

Orderable groups with Engel-like conditions [PDF]
Let x be an element of a group G. For a positive integer n let E_n(x) be the subgroup generated by all commutators [...[[y,x],x],...,x] over y in G, where x is repeated n times. There are several recent results showing that certain properties of groups with small subgroups E_n(x) are close to those of Engel groups.

Engel Lie rings with chain conditions
A result of Max Zorn states that if a Lie ring satisfies the maximal condition for subrings and if each element is a bounded left Engel element then the Lie ring is nilpotent. The purpose of this paper is to extend this result to Lie rings satisfying the general Engel condition and with no infinite strictly ascending chains of abelian subrings.

On the classification of prolongations up to Engel homotopy
In [CPPP] it was shown that Engel structures satisfy an existence $h$-principle, and the question of whether a full $h$-principle holds was left open.

Maxwell Strata and Cut Locus in Sub-Riemannian Problem on Engel group
We consider the nilpotent left-invariant sub-Riemannian structure on the Engel group. This structure gives a fundamental local approximation of a generic rank 2 sub-Riemannian structure on a 4-manifold near a generic point (in particular, of the ...

RIGHT ENGEL CONDITIONS FOR ORDERABLE GROUPS
Abstract Let g be an element of a group G. For a positive integer n, let $R_n(g)$ be the subgroup generated by all commutators $[\ldots [[g,x],x],\ldots ,x]$ over $x\in G$ , where x is repeated n times.
