Engine Noise

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1954
The title of this paper could cover a number of interesting problems ranging from the ultrasonic scream from compressors and its (alleged) effect in producing “jet sickness,” to the noise from supersonic propellers but, since it is “in particular Jet Noise” which is under discussion, this paper deals entirely with that subject.

Engineering Control of Furnace Noise

American Industrial Hygiene Association Journal, 1969
Abstract Sound pressure levels around furnaces may be hazardous to hearing, interfere with communications, and annoy occupants in adjoining areas. Burners are the most important but not the sole source of noise. Burner premix and combustion noise are described, and methods of noise control for existing installations are illustrated.

Learning with noise in engineering domains

1996
This paper presents a learning approach which identifies and eliminates noisy examples (outliers) to improve the quality of training on engineering data and the effectiveness of the learned concept descriptions. In this approach, one (1) acquires initial concept descriptions from preclassified attributional training data, (2) optimizes concept ...

Synthesis of car noise based on a composition of engine noise and friction noise

IEEE International Conference on Acoustics Speech and Signal Processing, 2002
This paper describes a method for generation of car noise based on the engine noise and the “friction noise.” The engine noise is modeled by composition of a stationary background noise that depends on the size of the engine and nonstationary noise that depends rotational speed of the engine.

Noise measurements for engineering purposes

Electrical Engineering, 1935
The 2 principles of noise measurement, namely, the subjective and objective principles, are discussed in this paper with special reference to electrical plant. Two forms of measurement embodying the subjective principle are considered: One is the proposed primary standard method, which is essentially a laboratory method; the other is the noise ...

Jet Engine Noise

The Journal of the Royal Aeronautical Society, 1954
During the past few years, the introduction of the large jet air liner has introduced new noises into the sky which has caused the public to be more aware than ever of the increasing nuisance value of aircraft taking off, landing, or on the ground. Much of this is being blamed unfairly on the jet air liner but the problem in any case remains with us ...

Teaching Digital Noise and Noise Margin Issues in Engineering Education

IEEE Transactions on Education, 2005
This work presents digital noise in signal integrity and clarifies noise margin issues in digital electronics education. For the static noise margin, the traditional definition violates the basic principle of noise. The embedded rectangle method to define the static noise margin is a more reliable criterion.

Psychoacoustic study on contribution of fan noise to engine noise

Chinese Journal of Mechanical Engineering, 2012
There are more researches on engine fan noise control focusing on reducing fan noise level through optimizing fan structure, and a lot of research achievements have been obtained. However, researches on the effect of fan noise to engine noise quality are lacking.
