Entamoeba histolytica: Isolation of ferredoxin

Experimental Parasitology, 1980
Abstract A significant portion of the nonheme iron and acid-labile sulfide of axenically grown Entamoeba histolytica was obtained in a colored, low molecular weight protein fraction from centrifuged amoeba homogenates following gel filtration. The colored component was further purified by adsorption on and elution from DEAE-cellulose. Preparations so

Small Race Entamoeba Histolytica

Gastroenterology, 1958
Summary 1.A brief history of the small race Entamoeba histolytica has been given. 2.The diagnostic problem presented by the small race E. histolytica, both parasitologic and clinical, has been discussed. 3.A summary of findings in patients with amebiasis has been presented from two laboratories in the Chicago area.

Entamoeba histolytica: Membrane fractions

Experimental Parasitology, 1977
Abstract A cell fractionation study was made of Entamoeba histolytica, a parasitic amoeba which lacks many typical subcellular organelles. Two membrane fractions were isolated from amoebal homogenates. Fraction V was pelleted at 5 ×104g min and purified by density centrifugation at the interphase between sucrose layers of densities 1.13 and 1.23.

Mitosomes in Entamoeba histolytica

2014
Mitosomes are highly divergent, often reduced, mitochondrion-derived organelles. Mitosomes in Entamoeba histolytica possess a unique metabolic role that has not been discovered in other eukaryotes. Sulfate activation, in which sulfate is activated with two ATP molecules to form 3′-phosphoadenosine-5′-phosphosulfate, is compartmentalized in Entamoeba ...

Differentiation of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba dispar infections

Parasitology Today, 1996
In this article, Terry jackson and Jonathan Ravdin briefly review the latest information on monoclonal antibody-based ELISAs that use antigen capture as a tool in the differential detection of human infection with Entamoeba histolytica and E. dispar.

Molecular karyotype of Entamoeba histolytica and Entamoeba invadens

Transactions of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1990
We report the size-fractionation of Entamoeba histolytica and E. invadens deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) by pulsed field gradient electrophoresis. Using 3 different electrophoretic conditions, we were able to resolve 6 to 9 bands between 300 and 2000 kilobases (kb), distributed in 16-22 large and up to 31 small chromosomes for E. histolytica DNA.

Entamoeba histolytica and Homo sapiens

Drugs, 1978
Blind acceptance of the dicta of the great has led to much confusion as to the relationship between amoeba and man. A review of the mistakes of the past may lead to a better appreciation of the present, and higher hopes for the future. An hypothesis is presented.

Entamoeba histolytica

2014
This chapter discusses Entamoeba histolytica, basic microbiology, natural history and life cycle, clinical features, pathogenicity, virulence and causation, treatment, methods of detection, survival and detection in the environment and in water, a critical review of the epidemiology and, finally, risk assessment.

Notes on the Mitosis of Entamoeba Histolytica

The American Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, 1957
Summary A trophozoite of Entamoeba histolytica in the late telophase stage of mitotic division is described. This organism was identified in a stained preparation obtained from an experimental infection in a dog, and appears to have certain characteristics not previously described.

Entamoeba histolytica brain abscess

2013
Brain abscess due to Entamoeba histolytica is most commonly seen in a small percentage of patients who also have an amebic liver abscess. The typical patient is a young man who after treatment for liver abscess with apparent improvement develops symptoms and signs of central nervous system involvement.
