Early versus delayed enteral nutrition for preterm Neonates: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials

open access: yesJournal of Family Medicine and Primary Care
Background: Preterm neonates often face challenges related to enteral nutrition initiation, and the optimal timing remains a subject of ongoing debate.

Enteropathogenic E. coli shows delayed attachment and host response in human jejunum organoid‐derived monolayers compared to HeLa cells

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Enteropathogenic E. coli (EPEC) infects the human intestinal epithelium, resulting in severe illness and diarrhoea. In this study, we compared the infection of cancer‐derived cell lines with human organoid‐derived models of the small intestine. We observed a delayed in attachment, inflammation and cell death on primary cells, indicating that host ...

Prevention of dexamethasone-induced lymphocytic apoptosis in the intestine and in Peyer patches by enteral nutrition

open access: yes, 2001
Background. Apoptosis is a programmed cell death, genetically controlled, that can be activated by physiological and pathophysiological events and by the administration of several drugs, including the exogenous administration of corticosteroids.

Enteric Duplication [PDF]

open access: yesClinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery, 2018
AbstractEnteric duplications have been described throughout the entire gastrointestinal tract. The usual perinatal presentation is an abdominal mass. Duplications associated with the foregut have associated respiratory symptoms, whereas duplications in the midgut and hindgut can present with obstructive symptoms, perforation, nausea, emesis, hemorrhage,

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Glutamine in critical care:current evidence from systematic reviews [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Glutamine, the most abundant amino acid in the body, is thought to become conditionally essential in critical illness. Some of the important roles for glutamine are as a carrier for inter-organ N, a preferred fuel for enterocytes and cells of the immune ...

Evaluating multifaceted strategies to prevent nasoenteral tube complications and achieve significant cost savings in critically ill patients: the ENHANCE-CRIT trial

open access: yesBMJ Open Quality
Background Nasoenteral tube (NET) use is common in critically ill patients but is associated with significant complications, including accidental dislodgement, malpositioning in the bronchial tree or mechanical failures, which can impede nutritional ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Reference Polymer Nutrient Media: Comparative Characteristics and Possibilities of Differential Use

open access: yesОбщая реаниматология, 2006
Trophic homeostasis together with oxygen provision is known to form the basis for the body’s vital activity and a prerequisite to the elimination of many abnormalities [1].
