Occurrence of Enteric Viruses in Surface Water and the Relationship with Changes in Season and Physical Water Quality Dynamics

open access: yesAdvances in Virology, 2020
Environmental water quality issues have dominated global discourse and studies over the past five decades. Significant parameters of environmental water quality include changes in biological and physical parameters.

YIPFα1A expression is regulated by multilayered molecular mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
YIPFα1A, a five‐pass Golgi protein, is regulated at multiple layers. (1) Rare‐codon enrichment drives translation‐coupled mRNA decay. (2) A proximal 3′‐UTR element stabilizes mRNA. (3) A distal 3′‐UTR element included by alternate poly(A) site usage represses translation, which can be overridden by the proximal 3′‐UTR element.

Enteric viruses exploit the microbiota to promote infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Enteric viruses infect the mammalian gastrointestinal tract which is home to a diverse community of intestinal bacteria. Accumulating evidence suggests that certain enteric viruses utilize these bacteria to promote infection. While this is not surprising

Respiratory and Enteric Viruses in Man and Animals [PDF]

open access: yesPublic Health Reports (1896-1970), 1961
Most of the current studies of respiratory diseases of man and animals are aimed at determining their virus etiology, and considerable progress has been made, particularly since the advent of tissue culture methods. The relatively new hemadsorption technique (1) is used extensively in work with many of the respiratory disease viruses. Essentially, this

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Emerging and potentially emerging viruses in water environments

open access: yesAnnali dell'Istituto Superiore di Sanità, 2012
Among microorganisms, viruses are best fit to become emerging pathogens since they are able to adapt not only by mutation but also through recombination and reassortment and can thus become able to infect new hosts and to adjust to new environments ...

Pharmacological inhibition of the PERK pathway modulates hepatocellular carcinoma growth and immune signaling

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Pharmacological inhibition of PERK in a DEN‐induced mouse model of liver cancer does not reduce tumor burden but alters cellular stress signaling. Despite blocking PERK activity, downstream stress responses, including CHOP expression, remain active, suggesting compensatory mechanisms within the unfolded protein response that may influence tumor ...

Epidemiologic studies on human enteric viruses in Cameroon [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Enteric viruses are a diverse group of viruses that include those that multiply in the intestinal epithelium and cause gastroenteritis, and those that first multiply in the intestine and then spread to extra-intestinal target organs where they cause ...

Evolutionary Studies on the Coxsackievirus A-24 Variants Causing Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis with Emphasis on the Recent Outbreak of 2023 in India

open access: yesViruses
Acute Hemorrhagic Conjunctivitis (AHC) is primarily caused by viral infections, with Coxsackievirus A-24v (CV-A24v) being a significant culprit. Enteroviruses, including CV-A24v, are responsible for global AHC outbreaks.
