Environmental persistence and transfer of enteric viruses
Current Opinion in Virology, 2014Non-enveloped enteric viruses, such as Human Norovirus and Hepatitis A Virus, are readily transmitted via the fecal-oral route. Outbreaks are often prolonged due to the ability of these viruses to survive on environmental surfaces, on foods, and in water.

Disinfection of human enteric viruses on fomites
FEMS Microbiology Letters, 1997The virucidal action of several commercially available disinfectant preparations was assayed against hepatitis A virus and human rotavirus dried on polystyrene. Overall, the level of virus disinfection achieved was very poor, usually inducing less than 3 log titre reduction.

How Viruses Enter Animal Cells
Science, 2004Viruses replicate within living cells and use the cellular machinery for the synthesis of their genome and other components. To gain access, they have evolved a variety of elegant mechanisms to deliver their genes and accessory proteins into the host cell.
