Beyond Gut Modulation: A Critical Review of the Therapeutic Potential, Safety, and Clinical Prospects of Natural Polysaccharides for IBD

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
In this review, we critically summarized the application of natural polysaccharides (NPs) for the treatment of IBD. This approach combines, in a unique way (right), the basic structure–activity relationships of NPs from different origins (left) with their multipronged mode of action, which involves modulation of the gut microbiota and other ...

Effects of Lactic Acid Bacteria and Yeasts on Growth Performance, Intestinal Health, and Organ Morphometry of Broiler Chickens

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
The fermentation of molasses‐vinasse with lactic acid bacteria and yeasts improves growth, intestinal health, digestive, and immune organs in chickens, promoting their productive performance and organic development. ABSTRACT This study evaluated the probiotic effects of lactic acid bacteria and yeasts on productive parameters, intestinal health, and ...

Beyond “you are what you eat”: Unlocking gut microbiota‐mediated biotransformation of dietary phytochemicals

open access: yesiMetaOmics, EarlyView.
The “efficacy paradox” of phytochemicals, low bioavailability yet significant health benefits, is associated with gut microbiota, which biotransforms dietary precursors into bioactive metabolites, enabling systemic effects. Thus, health outcomes of diet depend not just on intake “the rainbow”, but on gut microbial metabolism, redefining “you are what ...

Detecting Antibiotic Resistance in Strains of Selected Gram‐Negative Bacterial Species Using Raman Spectroscopy

open access: yesJournal of Raman Spectroscopy, EarlyView.
Raman spectroscopy successfully identified antibiotic‐resistant Gram‐negative strains. Resistant strains of four bacterial species were discriminated from sensitive ones with 99.1% accuracy using PLS regression. The method allows for rapid, label‐free detection of antibiotic resistance.

Enterococcus canintestini sp. nov., from faecal samples of healthy dogs [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Systematic and Evolutionary Microbiology, 2005
The taxonomic position of strain LMG 13590T, originally isolated from dog faeces and classified as Enterococcus dispar in the BCCM/LMG Bacteria Catalogue, was reinvestigated. This strain and 12 recent isolates from faecal samples of healthy dogs occupied a clearly separate position when investigated with multilocus sequence analysis (MLSA) of the genes
