Isolation of coliphages specific to enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC)
Journal of Environmental Monitoring, 2000Bacteriophages specific to Enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) are reported for the first time. Out of 15 isolated phages only 10 were specific to strains of ETEC. All ten phages of dsDNA could be grouped into three different genotypes based on their RAPD patterns observed and it is likellly that they belong to only 3 different strains.

CS1 pili of enterotoxigenic E. coli
1994In the establishment of bacterial infections, the first step is attachment to host tissue. For most Gram-negative bacteria, this is accomplished by surface appendages called pili. Different strains of enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC), which are a major cause of intestinal disease in humans, utilize a limited number of serologically different pili for ...

Iron represses the expression of CFA/I fimbriae of enterotoxigenic E. coli
Microbial Pathogenesis, 1991Experiments were designed to study the effect of iron on the expression of CFA/I fimbriae by enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC). Addition of 0.05 mM ferrous sulfate to growth media decreased CFA/I antigen and fimbrial production by the CFA/I-positive ETEC strain H-10407 as measured by quantitative ELISA and hemagglutination assay. The repressive effect was

Enterotoxigenic E. coli in humans.
Journal of hygiene, epidemiology, microbiology, and immunology, 1979E. coli strains isolated from persons having diarrhoeal disease were tested for the production of TS enterotoxin. The production of TSE was demonstrated in 2.5% in a series of 80 strains isolated from children under one year of age, having acute diarrhoea. TSE was produced by 8.4% of E.

Previous studies on virotypes and antimicrobial resistance in a collection of porcine enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) O149 strains from Quebec revealed an increase in the number of multiresistant strains (in particular to tetracycline) and the appearance of new virulence factors with time.

The prevalence and behavior of multidrug-resistant diarrheagenic Escherichia coli pathotypes on coriander was determined. One hundred coriander samples were collected from markets. Generic E. coli were determined using the most probable number procedure. Diarrheagenic E.

[Personal experience in testing for E. coli enterotoxigenicity].
Ceskoslovenska epidemiologie, mikrobiologie, imunologie, 1991When testing the production of the thermolabile enterotoxin by strains of E. coli, using six different methods, the highest positivity (100%) was recorded when using the modified test of oedema on mouse paws and the lowest one (5%) when using the Biken test. The strains were isolated from diarrhoeal infections in young children.
