Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) is a major cause of diarrhea in children and travelers in developing countries. ETEC is characterized by the ability to produce major virulence factors including colonization factors (CFs) and enterotoxins, that ...

Confronting Challenges to Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli Vaccine Development
The enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) are a diverse and genetically plastic pathologic variant (pathovar) of E. coli defined by their production of heat-labile (LT) and heat-stable (ST) enterotoxins.

Pig vaccination strategies based on enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli toxins
Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli (ETEC) are responsible for diarrhea in humans as well as in farm animals. ETEC infections in newborn, suckling, and especially in post-weaning piglets are associated with reduced growth rate, morbidity, and mortality ...

Enterotoxigenic Escherichia coli infections have been linked to non-diarrheal sequelae however, the reasons for this are unclear. Here, the authors present an additional role of heat-labile toxin in disrupting the structure and function of intestinal ...
