Fatal Neonatal Myocarditis Caused by a Recombinant Human Enterovirus-B Variant

Pediatric Infectious Disease Journal, 2008
We report a case of fatal myocarditis in a newborn infant who was infected with a human enterovirus detected by throat culture and RT-PCR for viral RNA in plasma. Whole genome sequence analysis revealed the virus to be a genomic chimera that likely arose from recombination between coxsackievirus B3 and two recently identified enteroviruses, EV 86 and ...

Generation of murine monoclonal antibodies which cross-neutralize human enterovirus genogroup B isolates

Journal of Virological Methods, 2011
A live enterovirus 71 (EV71) isolate designated, EV71/E59, with genotype B4 produced in Vero cells and purified over a sucrose gradient was used as the immunogen to generate EV71-specific murine monoclonal antibodies. Four hybridoma clones derived from the fusion of splenocytes of EV71/E59-preimmunized BALB/c (H-2(d)) mice and the NS-1 myeloma cells ...

Molecular identification of 13 new enterovirus types, EV79–88, EV97, and EV100–101, members of the species Human Enterovirus B

Virus Research, 2007
Molecular methods have enabled the rapid identification of new enterovirus (EV) serotypes that are untypeable using existing neutralizing antisera. As a result, sequencing of the VP1 capsid gene has been developed as a surrogate for antigenic typing to distinguish enterovirus types.

An epidemic of encephalitis associated with human enterovirus B in Uttar Pradesh, India, 2008

Journal of Clinical Virology, 2011
Human enteroviruses (HEVs) are a rare cause of encephalitis, presenting in endemic or epidemic form. The aim of the study is to identify and characterise the causative agent of the encephalitis epidemic, which occurred in Uttar Pradesh, India during the summer of 2008.A total of 90 cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens were collected between June and ...

Genomic characterization of echovirus 6 causing aseptic meningitis in Hokkaido, Japan: a novel cluster in the nonstructural protein coding region of human enterovirus B

Archives of Virology, 2012
We determined four complete nucleotide sequences of echovirus 6 (E6) isolated from an epidemic of aseptic meningitis (AM) in Hokkaido, Japan, in 2011. Phylogenetic analysis of the genes encoding viral capsid protein 1 revealed that the strains were closely related to E6 strains isolated in China in recent years, but they were distantly related to E6 ...

An Environmental Surveillance in Uruguay Reveals the Presence of Highly Divergent Types of Human Enterovirus Species C and a High Frequency of Species A and B Types

Food and Environmental Virology, 2018
Information about Human Enterovirus circulation in Uruguay is scarce. The aim of this study was to generate the first description about their circulation in the country through the study of sewage samples collected before and after the switch from Oral Poliovirus Vaccine to Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine.

[Identification and genetic characterization of human enterovirus type 73, 75, and 97 strains of specie B isolated in Shandong province].

Bing du xue bao = Chinese journal of virology, 2010
Molecular typing was conducted for three human enteroviruses (HEV) isolated from acute flaccid paralysis (AFP) cases in Shandong province, China. RNAs from virus supernatants were extracted and complete VP1 genes were amplified by RT-PCR and sequenced. Genotypes of these isolates were identified as HEV type 73, 75 and 97, respectively by BLAST program.
