Enterovirus D68 pneumonia in two older patients: A case report and literature review

open access: yesJournal of International Medical Research
Enterovirus D68 mainly causes respiratory tract infections, with children being the main infected population and most adults experiencing latent infections. This report presents the cases of two older patients with enterovirus D68 pneumonia. Both of them

Novel Wide‐Spectrum Virucidal Lipid Nanoparticles

open access: yesSmall, Volume 22, Issue 7, 2 February 2026.
POSTAN is a novel broad‐spectrum antiviral nanoparticle that combines safety with potent virucidal activity. Composed of biocompatible lipids, it mimics heparan sulfate proteoglycans and lipid rafts exploited by viruses, thereby dismantling viral envelopes and blocking replication.

Characterising the Transcriptomic Response to Interferon and Infection in European Domestic Ferret Respiratory Tissues Using Long‐Read RNA Sequencing

open access: yesImmunology, Volume 177, Issue 2, Page 299-316, February 2026.
We utilised long‐read Nanopore sequencing to characterise the transcriptome of ferret cell lines stimulated with IFN‐α as well as nasal turbinates from ferrets infected with influenza A virus. We identified novel genes and isoforms and observed elongation of poly(A) tails in the ribosome and Coronavirus Disease‐19 pathways in response to IFN‐α ...

Report of an outbreak of enterovirus disease in a neonatal intensive care unit and a systematic review of the literature

open access: yesAIMS Microbiology
Neonatal enterovirus infections have the potential to cause devastating illness and death in this vulnerable age group. Existing evidence suggests that the incidence of enteroviral infections in the post-natal period may be higher than previously thought.

Bee products as alternatives in the treatment of viral infections

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, Volume 106, Issue 1, Page 33-54, 15 January 2026.
Abstract Medicines used in the treatment of viral infections usually reduce symptoms. There is a need to develop drugs that inhibit the viruses and do not merely relieve the symptoms. Natural bee products possess many pharmacological properties and are widely used in folk medicine. There are many studies on the antibacterial effects of bee products but

Wastewater monitoring allows the detection of uncommon and highly pathogenic enterovirus types

open access: yesApplied and Environmental Microbiology
The genus Enterovirus (EV) includes small ubiquitous viruses with a single-stranded positive-RNA genome. Most EV infections are asymptomatic, but pathogenic EVs are responsible for a wide range of diseases and occasionally epidemics.
