John Bell and the great enterprise [PDF]
I outline Bell's vision of the "great enterprise" of science, and his view that conventional teachings about quantum mechanics constituted a betrayal of this enterprise. I describe a proposal of his to put the theory on a more satisfactory footing, and review the subsequent uses that have been made of one element of this proposal, namely Bell's ...

A novel, high tensile modulus, fully aromatic thermotropic liquid crystalline polyimide (LCPI) with better solvent resistance and thermal stability is synthesized. Tensile specimens are fabricated using both injection molding and FFF processes, accomplished via lower viscosity enabled by the LC phase.

The plasma edge of transparent conducting oxide SrNbO3 shifts from ∼2 eV in the visible range to 1.37 eV in the near‐infrared region by off‐stoichiometry using the vacancy sites as quasi‐substitutional virtual elements. This work advances the stoichiometry engineering of perovskite oxides using oxide molecular beam epitaxy, allowing synthesis beyond ...

Enterprise and employability: to conflate or not to conflate? [PDF]
Back in 1992, Watts and Hawthorn provided definitions of ‘enterprise’ that could subsume the concept of employability. They argued that enterprise may be about: helping students set up a business; working within an enterprise (organisation); or being ...

Multi‐Scaled Cellulosic Nanonetworks from Tunicates
Microbial and plant nanonetworks of cellulose have enabled a wide range of high‐performance yet sustainable materials. Herein, a third class of cellulosic nanonetworks is showcased by exploiting the only animal tissue‐producing cellulose nanofibers, i.e., ascidians. An ultrastructure including spherical cells and a microvasculature with diameters of 50–
