A new method for correcting temperature log profiles in low-enthalpy plays

open access: yesGeothermal Energy, 2020
Temperature logs recorded shortly after drilling operations can be the only temperature information from deep wells. However, these measurements are still influenced by the thermal disturbance caused by drilling and therefore do not represent true rock ...

Melting of PCM in a thermal energy storage unit: Numerical investigation and effect of nanoparticle enhancement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The present paper describes the analysis of the melting process in a single vertical shell-and-tube latent heat thermal energy storage (LHTES), unit and it is directed at understanding the thermal performance of the system.

Investigating the Low‐Temperature Phase Stability of the Binary Ta–W System

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Atomistic simulations show that the binary Ta–W system forms ordered intermetallic phases, B2‐TaW and D03‐TaW3, as 0 K ground states. Configurational entropy, however, lowers the free energy of the disordered bcc solid solution, which becomes the stable phase above about 400 K.

A quick screening approach for design of multi-principal element alloy with solid solution phase

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2019
Multi-principal element alloys (MPEAs) have wide promising applications. However, the composition design of MPEAs is challenging due to their vast options and complexity.

An enthalpy-based hybrid lattice-Boltzmann method for modelling solid–liquid phase transition in the presence of convective transport

open access: yes, 2007
An extended lattice Boltzmann model is developed for simulating the convection–diffusion phenomena associated with solid–liquid phase transition processes. Macroscopic hydrodynamic variables are obtained through the solution of an evolution equation of a

High‐Entropy Alloy Interlayers Toward Advanced Joining for High‐Performance Structural Applications: Current Progress and Emerging Challenges

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
HEA interlayers offer a versatile route for joining high‐performance structural materials. Their compositional and structural design regulates interfacial reactions, suppresses brittle IMCs, and improves metallurgical bonding. Sandwich interlayers further integrate defect healing with precipitation strengthening, enabling improved strength–ductility ...

An enhanced numerical approach for convection phase change problems: A solution of tin melting problem

open access: yesCase Studies in Thermal Engineering, 2020
A comprehensive and efficient numerical phase change model compatible with the stream function-vorticity formulation is developed. The model is based on the source term of the enthalpy-porosity method derived from Darcy's law.

Functionalizing Micro‐to‐Mesoscopic Electrode Architectures for Regulating Electron Transfer Behaviors in Electrocatalysis

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A systematic review is conducted to assess the influence of electrode architecture across micro‐ to mesoscopic length scales on electron‐transfer pathways in electrocatalysis. We discuss the structure‐activity relationships in electrocatalytic applications, including resource recovery and environmental remediation, and provide cost‐effective, efficient
