A method for calculating the enthalpy of hydrophobic effect [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A new method for calculating the enthalpy of hydrophobic effect for compounds incapable of specific interactions with water was suggested. The method is based on separating the enthalpy of hydration into the contributions from nonspecific hydration and ...

Acetoacetates Derived From Vegetable Oils: A Platform for Tailor‐Made Vinylogous Urethane Foams

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A renewable vegetable oil is converted into acetoacetate‐functionalized precursors for the preparation of catalyst‐free vinylogous urethane foams. Room‐temperature foaming with n‐pentane generates lightweight cellular materials, while the choice of amine enables control over foam structure and mechanical properties.

Ultrathin Amphipathic Dual‐Polymer Networks: Unlocking Hyper‐Permeable CO2 Capture via Solvent‐Mediated Poly(Ethylene Oxide) Amorphization

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Hydrophilic PEO‐copolymers and hydrophobic PDMS are physically integrated via a compatibilizing solvent into an amphipathic dual‐polymer network with versatile interfacial affinity and completely amorphized PEO segments for hyper‐permeable CO2 transport.

Adsorption Studies of Cu from Aqueous/Acidic Solutions on to Bentonite

open access: yesAdsorption Science & Technology, 1999
The influence of temperature on the adsorption of 4-hydroxyacetanilide (paracetamol) from aqueous solution (pH = 7) on to de-ashed, commercial activated carbons is described. Three carbon samples, D43/1 (Carbo-Tech.

Modeling of dendrite growth from undercooled nickel melt: sharp interface model versus enthalpy method [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The dendritic growth of pure materials in undercooled melts is critical to understanding the fundamentals of solidification. This work investigates two new insights, the first is an advanced definition for the two-dimensional stability criterion of ...

Photo‐Switchable Molecular Module Programming PET Biodegradation in Aquatic Environments

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We address the plastic durability paradox by integrating an itaconic acid–derived pyrrolidone module into polymer backbones. Sunlight in water triggers Norrish Type I ring‐opening and hydrophilization, enabling rapid biodegradation into nontoxic minerals.

Technique for Evaluating the Uncertainty of Enthalpy of Water and Steam for Thermal Energy Metering Systems

open access: yes, 2018
The paper presents an analysis of existing techniques for calculating the enthalpy of water (steam). Based on the analysis the techniques were defined that should be applied for computer-aided design of thermal energy metering systems.

Desert Plant Inspired Hierarchical Nanofibrous Membranes for Integrated Solar Desalination and Heavy Metal Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An Alhagi maurorum inspired hierarchical composite membrane (NFCu) was developed by integrating heavy metal remediation and solar‐driven interfacial evaporation in a single platform. Beyond the photothermal effect, a localized photocatalytic process is realized on the CuO surface, deepening the mechanistic understanding of light–matter–water ...

Smoothing and Rothe's method for Stefan problems in enthalpy form [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The classical two-phase Stefan problem as well as its weak variational formulation model the connection between the different phases of the considered material by interface conditions at the occurring free boundary or by a jump of the enthalpy.
