The Entity-Relationship model (abbreviated to ER model) is a data model, which allows us to model the semantics of a conceptual database schema. Actually, the ER model is only a partial data model, since it only caters for the data structure and integrity constraint parts of a data model with no provision being made for a query and update language.

ACM SIGMIS Database: the DATABASE for Advances in Information Systems, 1992
In the business environment data modeling diagrams are used as a user communication tool during Data Analysis, as a Database Design tool, as part of Systems Documentation and, increasingly, as a base for automatic generation of data definition language statements by CASE software. In this paper it is argued that the first two uses have conflicting ...

In this chapter as well as in chapters 6 and 7 we cover the area of relational database design. Although database design can be regarded as falling within the scope of Systems Analysis, important design techniques have been influenced by the Relational Model.

Proceedings of the 2012 IEEE Global Engineering Education Conference (EDUCON), 2012
The importance of the Entity-Relationship in the understanding of data base design is discussed as is the relative importance that many Universities give to its teaching. The amount of time of those Universities, that allow public access to database program syllabuses, is contrasted and a simulation that allows the experimentation with various forms of

Leveled entity relationship model
1994Layering ER diagrams has been a key tool to abstract the complexity of large data schemas generated by enterprise modeling. However, the current approaches have a certain impedance between successive steps of refining (or abstracting) ER diagrams. First, most approaches do not have a well-defined correspondence between an entity at a higher level and ...

Temporal entity-relationship models-a survey
IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering, 1999The entity-relationship (ER) model, using varying notations and with some semantic variations, is enjoying a remarkable and increasing popularity in both the research community-the computer science curriculum-and in industry. In step with the increasing diffusion of relational platforms, ER modeling is growing in popularity.
