1987The present entomocenoses of Polish forests originated mainly in the Quaternary period, when the ice sheets of the Last Glaciation retreated. Only some mountain species in the Sudeten and Carpathian region were able to survive all of the Pleistocene glacial periods and are thus of a more ancient origin.
