Evolution of Peripheral Visual System in the Apoidea: A Role for Food Item Mobility?
Ecology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 5, May 2026.Since larger compound eyes and ocelli altogether improve vision, one may expect that insects specialised in chasing very mobile resources possess such morphological optimisation. By analysing 77 species of bees and wasps, we have found that wasps had larger eyes, but not larger ocelli, than bees.
