Cluster‐Mediated Solute Stabilization and Shear‐Bypass Synergistic Strengthening in High‐Alloyed Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that in high‐alloy systems, nanoclusters with high solute tolerance can effectively suppress compositional segregation. This mitigation leads to a concurrent 18.7% increase in strength and 41.5% improvement in ductility, which is attributed to a shear‐bypass synergistic strengthening mechanism. The findings provide a new pathway

The Influence of Water/Cement Ratio and Air Entrainment on the Electric Resistivity of Ionically Conductive Mortar [PDF]

open access: yesMaterials, 2019
Ionically-conductive mortar can be used for indoor radiant heating partition walls. In these applications, mortar blocks are soaked in electrolyte solutions of CuSO4. The surfaces of the block are coated with sealant and epoxy resin afterwards to prevent evaporation.

Reduced‐Graphene Oxide Nanofiltration Membranes Intercalated by Conjugated Polyaromatics: Towards High Monovalent Salt Rejections

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We demonstrate the fabrication of a series of reduced‐GO nanofiltration membranes containing intercalated polyaromatic conjugated molecules of different structural classes. These tuned‐nanochannel membranes perform “deep nanofiltration” with remarkably high monovalent salt rejections and near‐total divalent salt rejections in a large concentration ...

Evaluating forecasts of the evolution of the cloudy boundary layer using diurnal composites of radar and lidar observations [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Observations of boundary-layer cloud have been made using radar and lidar at Chilbolton, Hampshire, UK. These have been compared with output from 7 different global and regional models.

Remote Magnetomechanical Neuromodulation Uncovers Therapeutic Mechanisms for Alleviating Parkinsonian Symptoms in Freely Moving Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Magnetomechanical neuromodulation using magnetic nanodiscs enables remote activation of neurons. In a hemiparkinsonian mouse model, alternating magnetic fields actuate the nanodiscs to generate torque that opens mechanosensitive ion channels within the subthalamic nucleus, thereby modulating basal ganglia motor circuitry.

Thermodynamic Modelling of Supersonic Gas Ejector with Droplets

open access: yesEntropy, 2017
This study presents a thermodynamic model for determining the entrainment ratio and double choke limiting pressure of supersonic ejectors within the context of heat driven refrigeration cycles, with and without droplet injection, at the constant area ...

Modified water-cement ratio rule for the design of air-entrained concrete

open access: yesИнженерно-строительный журнал, 2019
Designing concrete compositions, containing entrained air, is usually done by means of empirical proportioning, which is quite a laborious and lengthy process. In the article design formulae are experimentally justified with rule of modified C/W, which is complex due to known empirical dependencies, and allow us to find the content of concrete ...

Improved Direct Ink Writing of Liquid Metal Foams via Liquid Additives

open access: yesAdvanced Electronic Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to pattern liquid metal is useful for making soft electrical and thermal devices. Dispensing liquid metal from a nozzle naturally results in the formation of spheroidal droplets, making direct‐write printing challenging. Liquid metal foams containing pockets of air can extrude as filaments, albeit inconsistently.

Transient modeling of extraction columns: Parameter estimation, uncertainty analysis, and operation optimization

open access: yesAIChE Journal, EarlyView.
Abstract Despite extensive modeling efforts in extraction research, transient column models are rarely applied in industry due to concerns regarding parameter identifiability and model reliability. To address this, we analyzed uncertainty propagation from estimated parameters in a previously introduced column model and assessed identifiability via ill ...

Numerical Study for the Effect of Secondary Fluid Inlet Geometrical Parameters on the Performance of Water-Steam Two-Phase Ejector used for Desalination System

open access: yesDiyala Journal of Engineering Sciences
This study investigates the effect of secondary fluid inlet geometrical parameters on the performance of a two-phase water-steam ejector operating in the subsonic flow regime.
