Discussion on the extensions of the entransy theory

open access: closedScience China Technological Sciences, 2017
In this paper, the preconditions for the extensions of the entransy theory are summarized and discussed. As the physical meaning of entransy is the “potential energy” of thermal energy, the concepts and analyses method of the entransy theory can be extended based on the viewpoint of potential energy.

Performance optimization of two-stage latent heat storage unit based on entransy theory

open access: closedInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2014
Abstract In order to enhance the performance of the latent heat storage (LHS) process and provide the criterion for the selection and match of the multistage PCMs, the effects of PCMs melting temperatures on the heat storage rate, entransy dissipation rate and heat storage quality were numerically analyzed based on the entransy theory. For the single

Analyses of coupled steady heat transfer processes with entropy generation minimization and entransy theory

open access: closedInternational Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2018
Abstract The entropy generation minimization and the entransy theory are widely used in the optimization of heat transfer. In this paper, the two theories are applied to coupled steady heat transfer systems. The two different definitions of radiative entransy flux are discussed.

Optimization of fin geometry in heat convection with entransy theory

open access: closedChinese Physics B, 2013
The entransy theory developed in recent years is used to optimize the aspect ratio of a plate fin in heat convection. Based on a two-dimensional model, the theoretical analysis shows that the minimum thermal resistance defined with the concept of entransy dissipation corresponds to the maximum heat transfer rate when the temperature of the heating ...

A global optimization method for evaporative cooling systems based on the entransy theory

open access: closedEnergy, 2012
Evaporative cooling technique, one of the most widely used methods, is essential to both energy conservation and environment protection. This contribution introduces a global optimization method for indirect evaporative cooling systems with coupled heat and mass transfer processes based on the entransy theory to improve their energy efficiency.

Constructal design for blast furnace wall based on the entransy theory

Applied Thermal Engineering, 2016
Abstract Based on the entransy dissipation extremum principle for thermal insulation process, constructal design of blast furnace wall is performed in this paper. Optimal construct of the cooling stave in the furnace wall is obtained by using finite element method.

Analyses of the endoreversible Carnot cycle with entropy theory and entransy theory

open access: closedChinese Physics B, 2013
The endoreversible Carnot cycle is analyzed based on the concepts of entropy generation, entropy generation number, entransy loss, and entransy loss coefficient. The relationships of the cycle output power and heat-work conversion efficiency with these parameters are discussed.

Design of heat exchanger network based on entransy theory

open access: closedChinese Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2017
Abstract The heat exchanger network (HEN) synthesis problem based on entransy theory is analyzed. According to the characteristics of entransy representation of thermal potential energy, the entransy dissipation represents the irreversibility of the heat transfer process, the temperature difference determines the entransy dissipation, and four HEN ...
