Nonsymmetric entropy I: basic concepts and results [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2006
A new concept named nonsymmetric entropy which generalizes the concepts of Boltzman's entropy and shannon's entropy, was introduced. Maximal nonsymmetric entropy principle was proven. Some important distribution laws were derived naturally from maximal nonsymmetric entropy principle.

Entropies for complex systems: generalized-generalized entropies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Many complex systems are characterized by non-Boltzmann distribution functions of their statistical variables. If one wants to -- justified or not -- hold on to the maximum entropy principle for complex statistical systems (non-Boltzmann) we demonstrate how the corresponding entropy has to look like, given the form of the corresponding distribution ...

On‐treatment dynamics of circulating extracellular vesicles in the first‐line setting of patients with advanced non‐small cell lung cancer: the LEXOVE prospective study

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The LEXOVE prospective study evaluated plasma cell‐free extracellular vesicle (cfEV) dynamics using Bradford assay and dynamic light scattering in metastatic non‐small cell lung cancer patients undergoing first‐line treatments, correlating a ∆cfEV < 20% with improved median progression‐free survival in responders versus non‐responders.

A Revised Generalized Kolmogorov-Sinai-like Entropy and Markov Shifts [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2007
The Kolmogorov-Sinai entropy in the sense of Tsallis under Bernoulli shifts was obtained by Meson and Vericat [J. Math. Phys. 37, 4480(1996)]. In this paper, we propose a revised generalized Kolmogorov-Sinai-q entropy under Markov shifts. The form of this generalized entropy with factor q is nonextensive.

Cellular liquid biopsy provides unique chances for disease monitoring, preclinical model generation and therapy adjustment in rare salivary gland cancer patients

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We quantified and cultured circulating tumor cells (CTCs) of 62 patients with various cancer types and generated CTC‐derived tumoroid models from two salivary gland cancer patients. Cellular liquid biopsy‐derived information enabled molecular genetic assessment of systemic disease heterogeneity and functional testing for therapy selection in both ...

Preimage entropy dimension of topological dynamical systems [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2014
We propose a new definition of preimage entropy dimension for continuous maps on compact metric spaces, investigate fundamental properties of the preimage entropy dimension, and compare the preimage entropy dimension with the topological entropy dimension.

Entropy and Sorting

open access: yesJournal of Computer and System Sciences, 1992
AbstractWe reconsider the old problem of sorting under partial information, and give polynomial time algorithms for the following tasks: (1) Given a partial order P, find (adaptively) a sequence of comparisons (questions of the form, "is x < y?") which sorts ( i.e., finds an unknown linear extension of) P using O(log(e(P))) comparisons in worst case ...

Genomic landscape and preclinical models of angiosarcoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Angiosarcomas are a rare and aggressive cancer with a poor prognosis for patients. The genomic landscape of angiosarcoma can be highly complex and heterogenous; however, recent studies have identified some common features especially within anatomic and molecular subgroups.

Approximate Entropy and Sample Entropy: A Comprehensive Tutorial

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
Approximate Entropy and Sample Entropy are two algorithms for determining the regularity of series of data based on the existence of patterns. Despite their similarities, the theoretical ideas behind those techniques are different but usually ignored ...

Entropy and Gravity [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2012
The effect of gravity upon changes of the entropy of a gravity-dominated system is discussed. In a universe dominated by vacuum energy, gravity is repulsive, and there is accelerated expansion. Furthermore, inhomogeneities are inflated and the universe approaches a state of thermal equilibrium. The difference between the evolution of the cosmic entropy
