Quantifying and minimizing entropy generation in AMTEC cells
IECEC-97 Proceedings of the Thirty-Second Intersociety Energy Conversion Engineering Conference (Cat. No.97CH6203), 1997Entropy generation in an AMTEC cell represents inherent power loss to the AMTEC cell. Minimizing cell entropy generation directly maximizes cell power generation and efficiency. An internal project is on-going at AMPS to identify, quantify and minimize entropy generation mechanisms within an AMTEC cell, with the goal of determining cost-effective ...

Entropy generation minimization of combined heat and mass transfer devices
This paper details a simple procedure by which the entropy generation in simultaneous heat and mass exchange devices can be minimized. Effectiveness for these devices is defined and a new parameter, ‘modified heat capacity rate ratio’ is introduced.

Optimization of a Circular Microchannel With Entropy Generation Minimization Method
AIP Conference Proceedings, 2010New advances in micro and nano scales are being realized and the contributions of micro and nano heat dissipation devices are of high importance in this novel technology development. Past studies showed that microchannel design depends on its thermal resistance and pressure drop.

Entropy Generation Minimization of Vapour Absorption Heat Transformer
2021Vapour absorption heat transformers (VAHT) are thermally operated systems, capable of upgrading waste heat or any low-grade energy such as solar and geothermal energy into useful levels. This paper presents the entropy generation minimization analysis of vapour absorption heat transformer system with water/lithium bromide as working fluid pair.

The Method of Entropy Generation Minimization
1999The objective of this chapter is to review a modern transformation in the teaching, research and practice of energy engineering: the increasingly important roles played by thermodynamics (especially the second law) in problem formulation, modeling and design optimization.

ENTROPY GENERATION MINIMIZATION: THE METHOD AND ITS APPLICATIONS
Proceedings of the International Thermal Science Seminar Bled. Volume 1, 2000This lecture outlines the basis for the entropy generation minimization method, and a series of key applications in power generation, refrigeration, and energy conservation The lecture begins with a review of the conceptof irreversibility, entropy generation, or exergy destruction.

Entropy generation minimization of a MHD (magnetohydrodynamic) flow in a microchannel
Energy, 2010The dissipative processes that arise in a microchannel flow subjected to electromagnetic interactions, as occurs in a MHD (magnetohydrodynamic) micropump, are analyzed. The entropy generation rate is used as a tool for the assessment of the intrinsic irreversibilities present in the microchannel owing to viscous friction, heat flow and electric ...

Entropy generation minimization on CIC (Cable-In-Conduit) superconductor design
Cryogenics, 1998Abstract The concept of EGM (Entropy Generation Minimization) is applied to the design of an optimum CIC (Cable-In-Conduit) superconducting cable for large scale superconducting magnets, which is cooled by supercritical helium flow inside a conduit at cryogenic temperature.
