Entropy Generation Minimization analysis of oscillating-flow regenerators
International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer, 2015Abstract The thermodynamic efficiencies of regenerative cooling cycles are directly linked to the heat transfer effectiveness and thermal losses in the regenerator. This paper proposes a performance analysis for regenerators based on the Entropy Generation Minimization (EGM) theory.

◾ Entropy Generation Minimization in Nanofluid Flow
2015Extensive studies can be found in the literature on the development of nanofluids and improvements of their thermofluid characteristics both theoretically and experimentally. On the contrary, most of the studies on nanofluids have been conducted from the first law of thermodynamics perspective.

Entropy generation minimization in turbulent mixed convection flows
International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 2007Abstract This paper reports the results of a numerical investigation of turbulent mixed convection from a symmetrically heated vertical channel, bathed by a steady upward flow of cold air. The computations have been performed using FLUENT 6.2 by employing the k–e model for turbulence with enhanced wall treatment.

Minimizing the generation of entropy: which sequence of reservoirs to choose?
European Journal of Physics, 2009This letter deals with irreversible processes described by abrupt changes in temperature or in pressure, in which the system is placed into contact with a finite number N of heat or work reservoirs, respectively. Two previous papers have shown that when N goes to infinity the entropy generation goes to zero, i.e. the process becomes reversible. Here we

Application of the entropy generation minimization method to solid mechanics
Applied Physics A, 2009This paper reports on a study that explored the application of the entropy generation minimization method to solid mechanics. After reviewing the definition of thermodynamic process and the principles of continuum mechanics, the constitutive equations of four categories of solid behaviors namely thermoelasticity, thermoviscoelasticity, thermoplasticity,

Entropy and Generalized Cost Minimization Models at the Macro Level
1992In Chapter 2 various links between entropy (and gravity) theory and spatial interaction behaviour have been discussed and interpreted. It turned out that the entropy concept was compatible with a behavioural interpretation of spatial interaction. In the present chapter an attempt will be made to start off from the entropy philosophy itself and to find ...

Generation of Inhibitory Connections to Minimize Internal and External Entropy
1992Abstract This paper presents a method to encode input patterns into internal representation with high selectivity. In the method, a modified complexity term is used to increase two kinds of selectivity in internal representation. First, a unit is selectively activated only for a specific pattern, while all other units are inactive for the pattern ...

Reinforcement Learning for Minimizing Entropy Generation in Energy Systems
This paper applies reinforcement learning to entropy generation minimization of energy systems, with examples of heat exchangers and wind turbines. Reinforcement learning is a branch of machine learning where an agent learns to make sequences of decisions by interacting with an environment to achieve a specific goal.Greg Naterer, Xili Duan, S.
