Prediction of Fatigue Crack Growth Rate Based on Entropy Generation [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
This paper presents the assessment of fatigue crack growth rate for dual-phase steel under spectrum loading based on entropy generation. According to the second law of thermodynamics, fatigue crack growth is related to entropy gain because of its irreversibility.

Teaching Fluid Mechanics and Thermodynamics Simultaneously through Pipeline Flow Experiments

open access: yesFluids, 2019
Entropy and entropy generation are abstract and illusive concepts for undergraduate students. In general, students find it difficult to visualize entropy generation in real (irreversible) processes, especially at a mechanistic level.

Entropy Generation and Heat Transfer Performances of Al2O3-Water Nanofluid Transitional Flow in Rectangular Channels with Dimples and Protrusions

open access: yesEntropy, 2016
Nanofluid has great potentials in heat transfer enhancement and entropy generation decrease as an effective cooling medium. Effects of Al2O3-water nanofluid flow on entropy generation and heat transfer performance in a rectangular conventional channel ...

Continuum Breakdown Parameter Based on Entropy Generation Rates [PDF]

open access: yes41st Aerospace Sciences Meeting and Exhibit, 2003
The dimensionless ratio of the mean free path to a reference length scale typically quantifies the extent to which the continuum assumption in fluid flow dynamics breaks down. However, ambiguity exists in the choice of an appropriate length scale and some researchers have suggested a local parameter, like the Knudsen number, for quantifying continuum ...

Performance optimization of centrifugal pump based on particle swarm optimization and entropy generation theory

open access: yesFrontiers in Energy Research, 2023
Centrifugal pumps are frequently utilized in general machinery, but they have issues with low efficiency, unstable operation, and high-power consumption in actual engineering, making performance improvements necessary.

Constructal Optimizations of Line-to-Line Vascular Channels with Turbulent Convection Heat Transfer

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
The multi-scale line-to-line vascular channels (LVCs) widely exist in nature because of their excellent transmission characteristics. In this paper, models of LVCs with turbulent convection heat transfer are established.

The experimental study of the entropy generation and energy performance of nano-fluid flow for automotive radiators

open access: yesEngineering Science and Technology, an International Journal, 2021
The present study focuses on the energy performance, entropy generation, and irreversibility of the use of nanofluid in an industrial Peugeot automobile radiator (size: 250 × 301 × 60.4 mm, channel number: 34 and hydraulic diameter: 1.923 mm) with a ...

Predictive Complexity and Generalized Entropy Rate of Stationary Ergodic Processes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
In the online prediction framework, we use generalized entropy of to study the loss rate of predictors when outcomes are drawn according to stationary ergodic distributions over the binary alphabet. We show that the notion of generalized entropy of a regular game \cite{KVV04} is well-defined for stationary ergodic distributions.
