A Statistical Mechanical Load Balancer for the Web

open access: yes, 2005
The maximum entropy principle from statistical mechanics states that a closed system attains an equilibrium distribution that maximizes its entropy. We first show that for graphs with fixed number of edges one can define a stochastic edge dynamic that ...

Numerical Study of Entropy Generation in Fully Developed Turbulent Circular Tube Flow Using an Elliptic Blending Turbulence Model

open access: yesEntropy, 2022
As computational fluid dynamics (CFD) advances, entropy generation minimization based on CFD becomes attractive for optimizing complex heat-transfer systems.

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Entropy Generation for Negative Frictional Pressure Drop in Vertical Slug and Churn Flows

open access: yesEntropy, 2021
It is widely accepted that the frictional pressure drop is impossible to be negative for pipe flow. However, the negative frictional pressure drops were observed for some cases of two-phase slug and churn flows in pipes, challenging the general sense of ...

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Numerical and Experimental Investigations on Inflow Loss in the Energy Recovery Turbines with Back-Curved and Front-Curved Impeller Based on the Entropy Generation Theory

open access: yesSocial Science Research Network, 2021
Pump as turbine (PAT) is one of the economical and effective energy recovery devices in small hydropower stations. A back-curved PAT and a front-curved PAT were designed, and performance characteristics were studied, the accuracy of the numerical ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Computations of local nonsimilar solutions for MHD flow of Reiner–Rivlin fluid

open access: yesNonlinear Analysis
Here local nonsimilar solution for hydromagnetic stretched flow of Reiner–Rivlin material is constructed. Heat generation, radiation, and dissipation in thermal expression are studied.

Query generation from multiple media examples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
This paper exploits an unified media document representation called feature terms for query generation from multiple media examples, e.g. images. A feature term refers to a value interval of a media feature. A media document is therefore represented by a
