A new information theoretical measure of global and local spatial association

open access: yes
In this paper a new measure of spatial association, the S statistics, is developed. The proposed measure is based on information theory by defining a spatially weighted information measure (entropy measure) that takes the spatial configuration into ...

Clinical Value of Information Entropy Compared with Deep Learning for Ultrasound Grading of Hepatic Steatosis

open access: yes, 2020
Entropy is a quantitative measure of signal uncertainty and has been widely applied to ultrasound tissue characterization. Ultrasound assessment of hepatic steatosis typically involves a backscattered statistical analysis of signals based on information ...

Longitudinal genome‐wide aneuploidy measurements in circulating cell‐free DNA to predict lack of benefit from pembrolizumab in patients with metastatic urothelial cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Many patients with urothelial cancer do not benefit from treatment with pembrolizumab, while at risk of severe side effects. Changes in the levels of circulating tumor DNA early during treatment, measured by a simple and affordable assay that can be easily implemented in the clinic, can be used as a prognostic tool to identify these patients.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

Models for time-varying moments using maximum entropy applied to a generalized measure of volatility [PDF]

open access: yes
We use an information-theoretic approach to interpret Engle's (1982) and Bollerslev's (1986) GARCH model as a model for the motion in time of the expected conditional second power moment.

On measure-theoretic aspects of nonextensive entropy functionals and corresponding maximum entropy prescriptions

open access: yes, 2007
Shannon entropy of a probability measure P, defined as on a measure space , is not a natural extension from the discrete case. However, maximum entropy (ME) prescriptions of Shannon entropy functional in the measure-theoretic case are consistent with ...

Tumor B‐cell infiltration in platinum‐treated advanced muscle‐invasive urothelial carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Bladder tumors with higher pretreatment memory B‐cell infiltration were linked to longer survival after cisplatin chemotherapy, but not carboplatin. These tumors also showed more organized immune structures (tertiary lymphoid structures) and a shared pro‐inflammatory B‐cell‐rich community, suggesting that memory B cells may help identify patients most ...

Statistical Entropy in General Equilibrium Theory [PDF]

open access: yes
This essay seeks to develop an integrated account of the workings of statistical mechanics and thermodynamics as a theory of economic equilibrium. It begins with a probabilistic description of general systems (made out of numerous elements), based on the

ZW4864‐mediated inhibition of the β‐catenin/BCL9/BCL9L complex reveals therapeutic potential in bladder cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Moving approximate entropy and its application to the electromyographic control of an artificial hand

open access: yes, 2009
A multiple-degree-of-freedom artificial hand has been developed at the University of Southampton with the aim of including control philosophies to form a highly functional prosthesis hand.
