Maximum Entropy and the Entropy of Mixing for Income Distributions

open access: yesJournal of Income Distribution®, 2009
Over the last 100 years, a large number of distributions has been proposed for the modeling of size phenomena, notably the size distribution of personal incomes. The most widely known of these models are the Pareto, log-normal, generalized log-normal, generalized Gamma, generalized Beta of the first and of the second kind, the Dagum, and the Singh ...

Two results on entropy, chaos, and independence in symbolic dynamics

open access: yes, 2015
We survey the connections between entropy, chaos, and independence in topological dynamics. We present extensions of two classical results placing the following notions in the context of symbolic dynamics: 1.

Transferrin receptor 1‐mediated iron uptake supports thermogenic activation in human cervical‐derived adipocytes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
In this study, we found that human cervical‐derived adipocytes maintain intracellular iron level by regulating the expression of iron transport‐related proteins during adrenergic stimulation. Melanotransferrin is predicted to interact with transferrin receptor 1 based on in silico analysis.

Phase separation can be stronger than chaos

open access: yesNew Journal of Physics, 2018
We investigate several dynamical regimes characterizing a bosonic binary mixture loaded in a ring trimer, with particular reference to the persistence of demixing.

Nanoscale chemical and structural investigation of solid solution polyelemental transition metal oxide nanoparticles

open access: yesiScience, 2023
Summary: Although it has been shown that configurational entropy can improve the structural stability in transition metal oxides (TMOs), little is known about the oxidation state of transition metals under random mixing of alloys.

On Large Deviation Property of Recurrence Times

open access: yes, 2013
We extend the study by Ornstein and Weiss on the asymptotic behavior of the normalized version of recurrence times and establish the large deviation property for a certain class of mixing processes.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Analysis of laminar-turbulent transition process in mixing layer with various information measures

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2016
In the laminar-turbulent transition process of a mixing layer formed downstream of a two-dimensional nozzle exit, an analysis was performed based on various information measures.

A quantum solution to Gibbs Paradox with few particles

open access: yes, 2012
We present a fully quantum solution to the Gibbs paradox (GP) with an illustration based on a gedanken experiment with two particles trapped in an infinite potential well.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.
