“That's All Anyone Needs Really, Support”: A Content Analysis of Retinoblastoma Survivors’ Psychosocial Support Needs

open access: yesPediatric Blood &Cancer, Volume 72, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Retinoblastoma (Rb) is a rare intraocular malignancy that affects one in 23,000 children born in the UK each year. This cancer can impact survivors across their lifetime, with the specific psychosocial challenges affecting this group becoming increasingly understood.

PD‐L1 Promotes Immunological Tolerance and Enhances Visual Protection of hESC‐RPE Grafts in Retinal Degeneration

open access: yesCell Proliferation, Volume 58, Issue 8, August 2025.
We generated immune‐tolerant mature hESC‐RPE cells by overexpressing PD‐L1. PD‐L1‐expressing hESC‐RPE grafts exhibited significantly higher survival, reduced apoptosis and enhanced visual protection in retinal degeneration models, which presents an alternative target to improve the efficiency of hESC‐RPE‐based therapy for AMD. ABSTRACT Immune rejection

Data set for reporting paediatric renal tumours: recommendations from the international collaboration on cancer reporting (ICCR)

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 87, Issue 2, Page 183-196, August 2025.
This is the first international data set, to our knowledge, produced by the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) for the reporting of resection specimens of paediatric renal tumours with the aim of standardising pathology reports, facilitating international data comparisons and improving patient management globally.

Comorbid Diabetes Mellitus Contributes to Residual Overactive Bladder After Transurethral Surgery for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Urology, Volume 32, Issue 8, Page 973-981, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Objectives This study aimed to investigate the factors associated with residual overactive bladder after transurethral surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia. Methods This study retrospectively analyzed male patients aged 50 years or older who underwent transurethral surgery for benign prostatic hyperplasia with overactive bladder between ...

Prognostic value of clinical parameters and exosomal lncRNA NEAT1_1 in MEN1‐related non‐functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors

open access: yesJournal of Neuroendocrinology, Volume 37, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract Non‐functioning pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (NF‐pNETs) significantly contribute to the premature death of multiple endocrine neoplasia type 1 (MEN1) patients. Reliable prognostic markers are not yet available. MicroRNAs (miRNA) and long‐non‐coding (lnc) RNAs, transported by extracellular vesicles, are emerging as new prognostic tools ...

New developments in biotechnology applied to animals: An assessment of the adequacy and sufficiency of current EFSA guidance for animal risk assessment

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 8, August 2025.
Abstract EFSA was requested by the European Commission to provide a scientific opinion on new developments in biotechnology, including new genomic techniques, as applied to animals for food, feed and other agricultural uses. A horizon‐scanning exercise identified a variety of animals obtained with new genomic techniques, with the potential to reach the

Phagocytosed Photoreceptor Outer Segment Particles Within the Retinal Pigment Epithelium Show Diurnal Rhythmicity and Variation Between Cone Subtypes in Larval Zebrafish

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 39, Issue 14, 31 July 2025.
Retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in the eye internalizes and digests aged outer segment (OS) tips by phagocytosis. This is a rhythmic process controlled by ambient light and circadian regulation. Here, we show that all cone subtypes in larval zebrafish are phagocytosed, but daily rhythmic variations in the OS particle numbers were observed with UV and ...
