Croatian Accession to the European Union: Institutional Challenges [PDF]

open access: yes
Awareness of the need for environmental protection must in Croatia be translated into a clear, overall and long-term concept, particularly because of the process of rapprochement with the European Union (EU), in which it is one of the key topics.

Gait Analysis of Pak Biawak: A Necrobot Lizard Built using the Skeleton of an Asian Water Monitor (Varanus Salvator)

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Pak Biawak, a necrobot, embodies an unusual fusion of biology and robotics. Designed to repurpose natural structures after death, it challenges conventional boundaries between nature and engineering. Its movements are precise yet unsettling, raising questions about sustainability, ethics, and the untapped potential of biointegrated machines.

A State‐Adaptive Koopman Control Framework for Real‐Time Deformable Tool Manipulation in Robotic Environmental Swabbing

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This work presents a state‐adaptive Koopman linear quadratic regulator framework for real‐time manipulation of a deformable swab tool in robotic environmental sampling. By combining Koopman linearization, tactile sensing, and centroid‐based force regulation, the system maintains stable contact forces and high coverage across flat and inclined surfaces.

Influence of human–forest relationships on perceived happiness in Finland

open access: yesPeople and Nature
The social functions of forest resources must be acknowledged for effective forest management, given the environmental challenges facing humanity. The current study assessed the dimensions of human–forest relationships that influence perceived happiness ...

Compliant Pneumatic Feet with Real‐Time Stiffness Adaptation for Humanoid Locomotion

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
A compliant pneumatic foot with real‐time variable stiffness enables humanoid robots to adapt to changing terrains. Using onboard vision and pressure control, the foot modulates stiffness within each gait cycle, reducing impact forces and improving balance. The design, cast in soft silicone with embedded air chambers and Kevlar wrapping, offers durable,

Backpropagation Through Soft Body: Investigating Information Processing in Brain–Body Coupling Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
This study explores how information processing is distributed between brains and bodies through a codesign approach. Using the “backpropagation through soft body” framework, brain–body coupling agents are developed and analyzed across several tasks in which output is generated through the agents’ physical dynamics.

The role of grazier motivations and risk attitudes in the adoption of grazing best management practices [PDF]

open access: yes
The onus on landholders in relation to environmental performance is ever increasing. One tool for achieving environmental improvements is the design and promotion of region-specific ‘best management practices’ (BMPs).
