Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Oxford Encyclopedia of Crisis Analysis

open access: yes, 2022
Digital technologies have fundamentally altered emergency and crisis management work through increased potential for role ambiguity, role conflict, distraction, and overload. Multi-level approaches to improve congruence between crisis managers and their

From Necropower to Earthly Care: Rethinking Environmental Crisis through Achille Mbembe

open access: yesOpen Philosophy
This article critically engages with Achille Mbembe’s concept of necropolitics to reframe the environmental crisis as a political and ethical issue rooted in colonial violence, extractive capitalism, and global structures of power.

Sustainable agro-food strategies as a response to environmental deterioration in the Frailesca territory, Chiapas, Mexico

open access: yesRa Ximhai, 2023
Currently, ecosystems are very deteriorated and large amounts of agrochemicals are applied to food for human consumption, which causes environmental and health problems in the society that consumes a diet based on food with agrochemicals, so a process of

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

The environmental crisis

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1971
Today concern about the environment is deep and widespread. It shows no sign of diminishing and, on the contrary, gives evidence of approaching hysteria on some occasions. The recent flap about mercury in tuna illustrates how fast the public jumps at any worrisome news about the environment, even when the concern is not justified.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.

Organizing the interface—Plasma membrane architecture and receptor dynamics in virus‐cell interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
