Pre-reproductive parental enriching experiences influence progeny’s developmental trajectories [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
While the positive effects of environmental enrichment (EE) applied after weaning, in adulthood, during aging, or even in the presence of brain damage have been widely described, the transgenerational effects of pre-reproductive EE have been less ...

Integrative Transcriptome Profiling of Cognitive Aging and Its Preservation through Ser/Thr Protein Phosphatase Regulation. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Environmental enrichment has been reported to delay or restore age-related cognitive deficits, however, a mechanism to account for the cause and progression of normal cognitive decline and its preservation by environmental enrichment is lacking.

Point for Enrichment, Point for Welfare—Testing Use of a Laser Pointer with Arapaima gigas

open access: yesAnimals, 2023
The arapaima (Arapaima gigas) is one of the largest freshwater fish species, known to exceed 3 m in total length. It is listed as Data Deficient by the IUCN. A. gigas is native to the Amazon River basin where they are an important food source.

Star Formation and Chemical Enrichment in Protoclusters [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
We examine star formation and chemical enrichment in protoclusters (PCs) using cosmological zoom-in hydrodynamic simulations. We find that the total star formation rate (SFR) in all PC ($>10^{14.4}\,h^{-1}$M$_\odot$) reaches $>10^4\,\mathrm{M}_\odot \mathrm{yr}^{-1}$ at $z=3$, equivalent to the observed PCs.

Life cycle modelling of environmental impacts of application of processed organic municipal solid waste on agricultural land (EASEWASTE) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
A model capable of quantifying the potential environmental impacts of agricultural application of composted or anaerobically digested source-separated organic municipal solid waste (MSW) is presented. In addition to the direct impacts, the model accounts

Have we reproduced Rat Park? Conceptual but not direct replication of the protective effects of social and environmental enrichment in addiction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The Rat Park studies are classic experiments in addiction neuroscience, yet they have not been successfully replicated directly and several serious methodological criticisms have been raised.

A potential biomarker of cognitive impairment: The olfactory dysfunction and its genes expression

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1884-1897, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objective Accumulation evidence has reported that olfactory impairment may be an essential clinical marker and predictor of mild cognitive impairment or Alzheimer's disease. Method Participants were enrolled in the population‐based, prospective study in Fuxin county, Liaoning province, China between 2019 and 2021.

Distinguishing environment-induced non-Markovianity from subsystem dynamics [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Quantum Information Vol. 18, No. 07, 2050042 (2020), 2020
Quantum non-Markovianity modifies the environmental decoherence of a system. This situation is enriched in complex systems owing to interactions among subsystems. We consider the problem of distinguishing the multiple sources of non-Markovianity using a simple power spectrum technique, applied to a qubit interacting with another qubit via a Jaynes ...

A transient inflammatory response contributes to oxaliplatin neurotoxicity in mice

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, Volume 9, Issue 12, Page 1985-1998, December 2022., 2022
Abstract Objectives Peripheral neuropathy is a relevant dose‐limiting adverse event that can affect up to 90% of oncologic patients with colorectal cancer receiving oxaliplatin treatment. The severity of neurotoxicity often leads to dose reduction or even premature cessation of chemotherapy.

Environmental enrichment improves the performance and behavior of piglets in the nursery phase

open access: yesArquivo Brasileiro de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia, 2016
In modern pig farming, the search for systems that promote environmental quality and welfare is an important issue. In this sense, the present study evaluated the effects of environmental enrichment on the performance and behavior of piglets.
