Evidence of a filtered approach to environmental monitoring
European Journal of Law and Economics, 2009This contribution focuses on the formulation of optimal inspection strategies and distinguishes between a targeting approach and a filtered approach to monitoring. Using a case study for the Flemish textile industry, we investigate the costs and benefits associated with specific monitoring and enforcement campaigns. The results show the beneficial role

Multilayer Filter Coatings with Improved Environmental Stability
Third Topical Meeting on Optical Interference Coatings, 1984In this paper we report on reactively sputtered optical coatings which are remarkably stable in wavelength performance after extensive temperature cycling and humidity exposure. This exceptional environmental stability makes them particularly well suited for use in optics systems subjected to harsh environments for extended time periods.

Effect of environmental factors on filter alkalinity and artifact formation
Environmental Science & Technology, 1985Artifact sulfate formation, estimated from filter alkalinities determined by a hot water extraction method (ASTM D-202), may be low compared to experimental values. This arises from the fact that the alkalinity available for reaction with acidic atmospheric gases depends on the extent of exposure to heat, moisture, and acidity.

The environmental filtering paradigm and non‐filtering community assembly processes
Journal of BiogeographyAbstractMotivation for abandoning the ‘environmental filtering’ metaphor has been increasing in the literature, yet it remains a widely used conceptual tool to guide research and education within ecological disciplines. I consider the possible origins of the filtering paradigm through linkages to hypotheses about the potentially oversized role of ...

Urbanization as an environmental filter for megacolorful birds
Abstract The colorfulness of bird plumage plays a crucial role in intraspecific (e.g. sexual display) and interspecific ecological interactions (e.g. camouflage and predation). Consequently, bird plumage colorfulness can affect the success of individuals in novel environments, such as urban settings.Lucas Ferreira do Nascimento +3 more

Silk Nanofibrillar Aerogel as Sustainable Filters for Environmental Purification
SmallAbstract Environmental pollution threatens human health and ecosystem sustainability, boosting a huge demand for filters. However, the petroleum‐based filters are likewise environmentally hazardous since their non‐degradability results in disposal in landfills.
