Peat filter performance under changing environmental conditions
Journal of Hazardous Materials, 2009Peat is a candidate filter material for in situ treatment of urban runoff, contaminated groundwater and landfill leachates. Until now research has focused on peat sorption in batch experiments and there is a lack of knowledge on peat performance in filter beds. In this project column tests were carried out to evaluate the capacity of peat to remove As,

Environmentally corrected matched filter
Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2015Matched filtering is commonly used to process broadband active acoustic echoes providing higher levels of range resolution and reverberation noise suppression than can be realized through narrowband processing. Since theoretical processing gains are proportional to the signal bandwidth, it is typically desirable to utilize the widest band signals ...

Species distribution models (SDMs) are widely used in ecology and conservation. However, their performance is known to be affected by a variety of factors related to species occurrence characteristics. In this study, we used a virtual species approach to

Filtering strategic environmental information processing using EIS
Proceedings of the Twenty-Fourth Annual Hawaii International Conference on System Sciences, 2002Environmental scanning and interpretation (ESI power filter; the organized scanning filter; the interpretation filter; and the communication filter. It also examines attributes that may influence the performance of each filter and thus the quality of output, strategic information, of ES&I.

Ecology, 2020
Understanding community assembly is a key goal in community ecology. Environmental filtering influences community assembly by excluding ill-adapted species, resulting in communities with similar functional traits.

Environmental sound classification using log-Gabor filter
2012 IEEE 11th International Conference on Signal Processing, 2012This paper presents novel approaches for efficient feature extraction using environmental sound magnitude spectrogram. We propose approaches based on the visual domain, the spectrogram is passed through a bank of 12 log-Gabor filters, followed by an averaged operation and passed through an optimal feature selection procedure based on mutual information.

Improved Membrane-filter Air-sampling Methods for Environmental Control
Health Physics, 1962Air sampling is a useful tool for controlling, as well as for analyzing, the environment. The equipment and techniques described were designed to facilitate the collection of localized samples directly at the source of potential contamination. Routine use of membrane filters was simplified by the design of a small, inexpensive filter holder, providing ...
