The European Environmental Noise Directive in Germany

INTER-NOISE and NOISE-CON Congress and Conference Proceedings
With the Environmental Noise Directive, the member states of the European Union have a common approach to mapping and reducing environmental noise. Noise exposure is determined in agglomerations and around major transport infrastructures. Noise action plans specify measures to reduce noise.

Responding to the Environmental Noise Directive by demonstrating the benefits of rail grinding on the Great Britain’s* railway network

Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part F: Journal of Rail and Rapid Transit, 2013
This paper investigates a significant reduction in environmental noise attributable to changes in the Network Rail grinding strategy employed within GB. It also considers how these findings could inform noise mapping and action plans required by the Environmental Noise Directive (END). Acoustic track quality (ATQ) is a measure of the surface roughness

The New German Prediction Model for Railway Noise “Schall 03 2006”: An Alternative Method for the Harmonised Calculation Method Proposed in the EU Directive on Environmental Noise

Acta Acustica united with Acustica, 2008
The German prediction method for noise from railway and tram lines, shunting and container yards to be omit or modified was revised during the last 5 years. As the result, the draft issue of a new "Schall 03 2006" has been prepared. The model is based on octave-band sound power levels describing the emission in different heights of different vehicles ...

Rating environmental noise on the basis of noise maps within the framework of the Environmental Noise Directive

2007
In order to evaluate the need for noise measures as well as the improvement that can be obtained with different measures, there is a need for a system that rates environmental noise on the basis of noise maps. Based on empirical exposure-response relationships, a rating system and a stepwise procedure for its implementation have been developed.
