On the environmental scanning electron microscope for taxonomic purposes

open access: yesInvertebrate Biology, 2005
Abstract. Realism, resolution, and portrayal of spatial relationships are three conditions for iconic representations in formal taxonomic descriptions. Hand drawing is a painstaking and time‐consuming technique. The environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM) is an alternative that can provide detailed images without damaging the specimen, thus ...

Electron Microscopy and Spectroscopy in the Analysis of Friction and Wear Mechanisms

open access: yesLubricants, 2018
Friction and wear take place on two solid surfaces in sliding contact as a result of the mechanical, thermal, and chemical interactions with the participation of environmental species.

Fundamentals and applications of environmental scanning electron microscopy

open access: yes, 2022
S.219-239The environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) allows the investigation not only of as-received non-conuctive materials but also of wet specimens. A gaseous environment in the specimen chamber of the microscope is used as an amplification

Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.
