1987John Arbuthnot simultaneously called for the collection of data that would reveal the elements of the environment-disease association, and explained some of the conclusions that could be drawn in advance of the data collection. Later environmentalists collected data, and believed that it pointed up associations.

Eurocat: Surveillance of Environmental Impact
2007EUROCAT is a European network of population-based registries for the epidemiologic surveillance of congenital anomalies. EUROCAT started in 1979 and now covers more than a quarter of all births in the European Union. Currently, 40 registries in 19 countries of Europe survey 1.35 million births per year.
