Transformations in Environmental Governance and Participation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
This chapter focuses on how ecological modernization theory has approached transformations taking place in environmental governance and participation by social actors beyond the state. In other words, how has ecological modernization scholarship addressed changes in environmental governance and the roles that different social actors are playing in ...

Transformation archetypes in global food systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2022
Food systems are primary drivers of human and environmental health, but the understanding of their diverse and dynamic co-transformation remains limited. We use a data-driven approach to disentangle different development pathways of national food systems

Structural instability impairs function of the UDP‐xylose synthase 1 Ile181Asn variant associated with short‐stature genetic syndrome in humans

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The Ile181Asn variant of human UDP‐xylose synthase (hUXS1), associated with a short‐stature genetic syndrome, has previously been reported as inactive. Our findings demonstrate that Ile181Asn‐hUXS1 retains catalytic activity similar to the wild‐type but exhibits reduced stability, a looser oligomeric state, and an increased tendency to precipitate ...

Structural characteristics, antioxidant and immunological activities of polysaccharides from Ficus hirta Vahl based on different extraction methods

open access: yesIndustrial Crops and Products
Ficus hirta Vahl is a bioactive medicinal plant. However, the structural and functional differences of polysaccharides obtained through various extraction methods remain poorly understood, highlighting the need for further research to explore its ...

Effect of community-based soil and water conservation practices on arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi types, spore densities, root colonization, and soil nutrients in the northern highlands of Ethiopia

open access: yesChemical and Biological Technologies in Agriculture, 2018
Background Soil and water conservation measures (SWC) have a great practical significance to the restoration of arbuscular mycorrhiza (AMF). The objective of this study was to quantify the effect of decades long community-based soil and water ...

Public environmental supervision, environmental non-governmental organizations, and industrial green and low-carbon transformation

open access: yesFrontiers in Environmental Science, 2023
The existing literature on China’s industrial green and low-carbon transformation primarily concerns the government’s top-down formal environmental regulation.

The (Glg)ABCs of cyanobacteria: modelling of glycogen synthesis and functional divergence of glycogen synthases in Synechocystis sp. PCC 6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We reconstituted Synechocystis glycogen synthesis in vitro from purified enzymes and showed that two GlgA isoenzymes produce glycogen with different architectures: GlgA1 yields denser, highly branched glycogen, whereas GlgA2 synthesizes longer, less‐branched chains.

Recent and future variability in 1-day precipitation extremes in Trentino – South Tyrol (Eastern Italian Alps) based on observations (1956-2023) and climate model projections

open access: yesWeather and Climate Extremes
Precipitation extremes are some of the most impactful events in mountain environments due to their triggering potential for hazards, such as gravitational mass movements and floods, damaging human settlements and economic activities. Intensifying extreme

Effect of community-based soil and water conservation practices on soil glomalin, aggregate size distribution, aggregate stability and aggregate-associated organic carbon in northern highlands of Ethiopia

open access: yesAgriculture & Food Security, 2018
Background Land degradation is a major and widespread problem causing losses of ecosystem services in Ethiopia. Extensive utilization of the land resources for centuries resulted in severe land degradation in the Tigray region of northern Ethiopia.

Synergetic effect of β-asarone and cannabidiol against Aβ aggregation in vitro and in vivo

open access: yesComputational and Structural Biotechnology Journal, 2023
Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex and multifactorial neurodegenerative disorder, and it is unlikely that any single drug or intervention will be very successful.
