D-Penicillamine and Enzymatic Activities
Enzyme, 1978The influence of incubation with D-penicillamine on pure enzyme preparations and on enzymatic activities of serum and skin homogenates was investigated. Three of the nine enzymatic activities studied underwent significant changes. Such effects of D-penicillamine must be taken into consideration if therapeutic or unwanted actions of this drug are to be ...

Triggering Enzymatic Activity with Force
Nano Letters, 2009Integrating single molecule force spectroscopy with fluorescence-based techniques allows the manipulation of an enzyme with a periodic stretching and relaxation protocol while simultaneously monitoring its catalytic activity. After releasing the stretching force we observe a higher probability for enzymatic activity at a time of 1.7 s.

Presynaptic Neurotoxins with Enzymatic Activities
2008Toxins that alter neurotransmitter release from nerve terminals are of considerable scientific and clinical importance. Many advances were recently made in the understanding of their molecular mechanisms of action and use in human therapy. Here, we focus on presynaptic neurotoxins, which are very potent inhibitors of the neurotransmitter release ...

Enzymatically active colloidal crystal arrays
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 2009We report the construction of three-dimensional (3D) colloidal crystal arrays (CCA) and hollow colloidal crystal arrays (HCCA) derived from the self-assembly of polyelectrolytes (PE)-coated polystyrene (PS) particles and their use as models of high surface area systems to immobilize peroxidase (POD).

Enzymatic Activity of Human Carboxylesterases
Current Protocols in Toxicology, 2007AbstractThe carboxylesterases (CEs) are hydrolytic enzymes that metabolize xenobiotics that contain ester, thioester, or amide bonds. CEs are ubiquitously expressed but are found in highest concentration in membrane‐enriched fractions of the liver. This unit describes assays used to measure the enzymatic activity and tissue distribution of human CEs ...

Microwave Activation of Enzymatic Catalysis
Journal of the American Chemical Society, 2008Microwave irradiation can be used to regulate biocatalysis. Herein, the utilization of hyperthermophilic enzymes in a microwave reactor is reported. While these enzymes are inactive at low temperatures, they can be activated with microwave irradiation.

Enzymatic activity in the activated-sludge floc matrix
Applied Microbiology and Biotechnology, 1995The enzymatic activity of activated sludge was investigated with special emphasis on the localization of the enzymes in the sludge floc matrix. Activated sludge from an advanced activated-sludge treatment plant, performing biological N and P removal, was used. An enzymatic fingerprint was established using a panel of six different enzymes.

Enzymatic activity of aphroproteins.
Biochemistry. Biokhimiia, 1999Chitinase and proteinase activities were found in aphroproteins excreted by larvae of the cicada Aphrophora costalis Mats; this accounts for their fungicidal effect. Aphroproteins did not show DNase or RNase activities and did not exhibit properties of proteinase inhibitors.

Enzymatic activity in single cells
2019With the increasing recognition of the importance in addressing cell-to-cell variations for the understanding of complex biological systems, single cell analyses are becoming increasingly important. Presented in this chapter is a highly sensitive approach capable of measuring human topoisomerase 1 (TOP1) activity in single CD133 positive DLD-1 cells ...

Non-enzymatic and enzymatic activation of mitomycin C: Identification of a unique cytosolic activity
International Journal of Cancer, 1996Mitomycin C (MMC), an alkylating anti-tumor agent, was activated by non-enzymatic and enzymatic mechanisms leading to DNA binding and adduct formation. However, it was enzymatically, not non-enzymatically, activated MMC which induced inter-strand DNA cross-linking, a major determinant of cell death.
