By dawn or dusk—how circadian timing rewrites bacterial infection outcomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The circadian clock shapes immune function, yet its influence on infection outcomes is only beginning to be understood. This review highlights how circadian timing alters host responses to the bacterial pathogens Salmonella enterica, Listeria monocytogenes, and Streptococcus pneumoniae revealing that the effectiveness of immune defense depends not only

Sertraline-induced pseudocholinesterase enzyme deficiency

open access: yesInternational Journal of General Medicine, 2010
A 47-year-old Turkish male was scheduled for laparoscopic cholecystectomy under general anesthesia. The patient had 2 operations 28 and 19 years ago under general anesthesia. It was learned that the patient was administered succinylcholine during both of these previous operations and that he did not have a history of prolonged recovery or postoperative

Phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinase as a target of pathogens—friend or foe?

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This graphical summary illustrates the roles of phosphatidylinositol 4‐kinases (PI4Ks). PI4Ks regulate key cellular processes and can be hijacked by pathogens, such as viruses, bacteria and parasites, to support their intracellular replication. Their dual role as essential host enzymes and pathogen cofactors makes them promising drug targets.

Structural insights into lacto‐N‐biose I recognition by a family 32 carbohydrate‐binding module from Bifidobacterium bifidum

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Bifidobacterium bifidum establishes symbiosis with infants by metabolizing lacto‐N‐biose I (LNB) from human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs). The extracellular multidomain enzyme LnbB drives this process, releasing LNB via its catalytic glycoside hydrolase family 20 (GH20) lacto‐N‐biosidase domain.

Selection of lactic acid bacteria strain for simultaneous production of α- and β-galactosidases

open access: yesZaštita Materijala, 2016
Galactosidases are group of enzymes gaining increasing attention in recent times due to the fact they catalyse hydrolysis of galatose-containing oligosaccharide, which reduce digestibility of various food and feed products.

Mechanism study of novel inducer combinations containing laver powder for Penicillium piceum lignocellulolytic enzyme production

open access: yesGCB Bioenergy, 2021
Inducers play an important role in fungus cellulase production. In this study, a combination of Avicel and laver powder, which contains cellulose, hemicellulose, other polysaccharides, and crude lipid, was used to induce lignocellulolytic enzyme ...

Crosstalk between the ribosome quality control‐associated E3 ubiquitin ligases LTN1 and RNF10

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of the E3 ligase LTN1, the ubiquitin‐like modifier UFM1, or the deubiquitinating enzyme UFSP2 disrupts endoplasmic reticulum–ribosome quality control (ER‐RQC), a pathway that removes stalled ribosomes and faulty proteins. This disruption may trigger a compensatory response to ER‐RQC defects, including increased expression of the E3 ligase RNF10 ...

Interplay between circadian and other transcription factors—Implications for cycling transcriptome reprogramming

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This perspective highlights emerging insights into how the circadian transcription factor CLOCK:BMAL1 regulates chromatin architecture, cooperates with other transcription factors, and coordinates enhancer dynamics. We propose an updated framework for how circadian transcription factors operate within dynamic and multifactorial chromatin landscapes ...

PERFIL DE SENSIBILIDAD DE HEP-G2 COMO MODELO PARA EVALUACIÓN DE ACTIVIDAD CITOTÓXICA DE XENOBIÓTICOS BIOACTIVADOS VIA CYP450 SENSITIVILITY PROFILE HEP-G2 AS A MODEL OF CYTOTOXIC ACTIVITY DETERMINATION OF BIOACTIVATED XENOBIOTICS VIA CYP450

open access: yesVitae, 2009
Para establecer la acción anticancerígena se han propuesto numerosas metodologías, principalmente enfocadas en la valoración de la citotoxicidad in vitro sobre líneas celulares neoplásicas derivadas de diferentes tipos de cáncer humano; sin embargo, gran

Optimization of the expression of levansucrase L17 in recombinant E. coli

open access: yesBiotechnology & Biotechnological Equipment, 2018
Levansucrases synthesize levans and fructooligosaccharides, which are of interest in the food and pharmaceutical industry. Leuconostoc mesenteroides Lm 17 produces levansucrase of about 120 kDa. The encoding gene from this strain was cloned and expressed
