Gas injections techniques for the EOR applications have gained worldwide interest. A variety of gasses such as CO2, hydrocarbon gases (CH4), air, N2 have been used in different regions of the world. However, CO2 gas is far most sought after gas for EOR applications.

Abstract This paper seeks answers, through a ‘philosophical’ approach, to the questions of whether enhanced oil recovery projects are purely driven by economic restrictions (i.e. oil prices) or if there are still technical issues to be considered, making companies refrain from enhanced oil recovery (EOR) applications.

Practical EOR Agents - There is more to EOR than CO2
SPE EOR Conference at Oil and Gas West Asia, 2018Abstract CO2 EOR projects have experienced localized success in the United States due to past investments in CO2 infrastructure made possible by no longer existing government incentives. Many countries mistakenly look at these successful cases, along with the environmental benefit of carbon capture, and embarked on a quest for a CO2 EOR ...

As the application of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) mechanisms expands globally, a vast amount of information is reported annually and many statistical works are carried out aiming mostly at the feasibility study of employing EOR methods for candidate reservoirs. In the last decades, researchers have gathered huge databases and used various techniques to

This paper considers project networks all of whose nodes have an exclusive- or entrance and whose arc weights consist of the execution probabilities and distribution functions of the durations of the respective project activities. EOR networks have some nice properties, for example, a set of Markov renewal processes can be assigned to such a network ...

Abstract An investigation of alternative EOR processes having potential application in the giant Ekofisk chalk field is presented. Technical feasibility, process readiness, oil recovery potential, and related uncertainties and risks of five selected EOR processes, namely hydrocarbon (HC) WAG, nitrogen (N2) WAG, carbon dioxide (CO2) WAG ...

Monitoring Chemical EOR Processes
SPE Improved Oil Recovery Symposium, 2014Abstract A laboratory study on core plugs from a carbonate field confirmed the efficacy of an alkaline surfactant (AS) formulation at reservoir conditions. Continuous monitoring of remaining oil saturation (ROS) in short core plugs using spatially resolved nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) can provide insights into the processes by which ...

Nitrogen has gained prominence as one of the fluids for enhanced oil and gas recovery (EOR) in the last decade. Large volume and high pressure characteristics of EOR nitrogen application required development of improved air separation cycles. The resulting nitrogen production process cycles for EOR application are described and compared.

Technology Focus: EOR Operations
Journal of Petroleum Technology, 2016Technology Focus A seminal event last year was the Climate Change Conference in Paris, where participating countries agreed to reduce their carbon output “as soon as possible” and to do their best to keep global warming “to well below 2°C.” History will be the judge of whether 2015 turns out to be a turning point in the journey to ...
