Peripheral blood eosinophil levels in chronic rhinosinusitis and its predictive value in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis

Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 2021
The prevalence of eosinophilic CRSwNP in China has increased significantly over the last 20 years, noninvasive methods that could assist in diagnosis are urgently needed. The aim of this study is to explore the clinical significance of peripheral blood eosinophil in diagnosing ECRS.We conducted a prospective study of 221 patients diagnosed with CRS ...

Eosinophilic Bacterial Chronic Rhinosinusitis

The Laryngoscope, 2007
AbstractBackground: A subset of Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients are those with eosinophilic CRS (ECRS). These patients remain the most refractory to medical and surgical intervention, and are thought to reflect an inflammatory process arising from a variety of causes.

Calprotectin in chronic rhinosinusitis eosinophil extracellular traps

International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology, 2023
AbstractBackgroundCalprotectin is an antimicrobial peptide primarily secreted by neutrophils. Furthermore, calprotectin secretion increases in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with polyps (CRSwNP) and positively correlates with neutrophil markers.

Rethinking neutrophils and eosinophils in chronic rhinosinusitis

Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, 2021
Chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) often is characterized by an eosinophilic inflammatory pattern, nowadays referred to as type 2 inflammation, although the mucosal inflammation is dominated by neutrophils in about a third of the patients. Neutrophils are typically predominant in 50% of patients with CRS without nasal polyps, but also are found to play a ...

Systemic biomarkers of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis

Current Opinion in Allergy & Clinical Immunology, 2020
Purpose of review The current understanding of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) has developed rapidly over the past decades. Classification of CRS based on the inflammatory endotype more accurately reflects the underlying pathophysiology and better directs treatment.

Systemic Predictors of Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis

American Journal of Rhinology & Allergy, 2018
Background Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (eCRS) is linked with skewed T-helper 2 or immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergic responses, with differing diagnosis, prognosis, and management to non-eCRS. Objective The association between biomarkers and eCRS was investigated to assess the predictors of eCRS.

Differential diagnosis of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis

Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, 2006
Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) encompasses a wide variety of etiologies. To date, a unifying pathophysiologic mechanism remains elusive. Eosinophilia is frequently, but not exclusively, caused by immunoglobulin (Ig)E-mediated hypersensitivity and is dominated by the associated cytokine milieu of Th2 inflammation.
