Systemic Predictors of Eosinophilic Chronic Rhinosinusitis
American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy, 2018Background Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (eCRS) is linked with skewed T-helper 2 or immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergic responses, with differing diagnosis, prognosis, and management to non-eCRS. Objective The association ...

Eosinophilic Bacterial Chronic Rhinosinusitis
The Laryngoscope, 2007AbstractBackground: A subset of Chronic Rhinosinusitis (CRS) patients are those with eosinophilic CRS (ECRS). These patients remain the most refractory to medical and surgical intervention, and are thought to reflect an inflammatory process arising from a variety of causes.

Systemic biomarkers of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis
Current Opinion in Allergy & Clinical Immunology, 2020Purpose of review The current understanding of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) has developed rapidly over the past decades. Classification of CRS based on the inflammatory endotype more accurately reflects the underlying pathophysiology and better directs treatment.

Calprotectin in chronic rhinosinusitis eosinophil extracellular traps
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology, 2023AbstractBackgroundCalprotectin is an antimicrobial peptide primarily secreted by neutrophils. Furthermore, calprotectin secretion increases in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) with polyps (CRSwNP) and positively correlates with neutrophil markers.

Categorization of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis
Current Opinion in Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery, 2004The presence of eosinophilia histopathologically in sinusitis is frequently associated with greater disease objectively and a decreased likelihood of surgical success. Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis encompasses a wide variety of etiologies and associations that can be grouped under this umbrella term.

Topography of polyp recurrence in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology, 2020Background Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (eCRS) is an inflammatory endotype of CRS. Contemporary treatment includes creation of a “neo‐sinus” cavity and postoperative corticosteroid irrigations. Not all patients gain control with local therapy.

Differential diagnosis of eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis
Current Allergy and Asthma Reports, 2006Eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis (ECRS) encompasses a wide variety of etiologies. To date, a unifying pathophysiologic mechanism remains elusive. Eosinophilia is frequently, but not exclusively, caused by immunoglobulin (Ig)E-mediated hypersensitivity and is dominated by the associated cytokine milieu of Th2 inflammation.

The role of interleukin-16 in eosinophilic chronic rhinosinusitis
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2007Eosinophilic granulocytes (Eos) are found in great numbers both in the tissue and in the mucus of patients suffering from chronic rhinosinusitis with polyposis (ECRS). Interleukin-16 (IL-16) is known as a highly potent chemotactic and chemoattractant molecule (ED 10-11) for Eos.

Eosinophilic esophagitis strongly linked to chronic rhinosinusitis
The Laryngoscope, 2015Objectives/HypothesisTo determine the relative risk of having eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE) coexist with chronic rhinosinusitis (CRS) in probands and their families using the Utah Population Database (UPDB).MethodsThis retrospective observational cohort study with population‐based matched controls utilized the UPDB, a genealogical database linked to ...
