Targeted β‐Glucan‐Veiled Oral Apremilast Nanotherapy Modulates Key Dysbiosis‐Associated Gut Microbiota and Alleviates Ulcerative Colitis‐Associated Anxiety, Depression, and Neuropsychiatric Behaviors

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study introduces β‐glucan‐shielded apremilast laden nanomicelles that withstand gastrointestinal degradation, selectively accumulate in inflamed colon tissue, and modulate the microbiota–gut–brain axis. The formulation restores barrier integrity, reduces systemic and neuroinflammation, and improves anxiety‐ and depression‐like behaviors in colitis

Gluten-Free Diet Does Not Appear to Induce Endoscopic Remission of Eosinophilic Esophagitis in Children with Coexistent Celiac Disease

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Gastroenterology, 2012
BACKGROUND: Celiac disease and eosinophilic esophagitis are usually considered to be separate gastrointestinal diseases; however, it appears that they may coexist more often than would be expected.

Structural Polymorphism of polyG Inclusions Revealed by In Situ Cryo‐Electron Tomography

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Correlative cryo‐electron tomography in primary cortical neurons and NIID mouse brain tissue reveals that polyG inclusions are interconnected ribbon‐like assemblies rather than canonical amyloid fibrils. Multiple compartment‐specific ribbon states show distinct 26S proteasome accessibility, while cytoplasmic ribbons contact and deform ER‐like ...

Clinical Significance of PD‐L1 and HLA Expression in Esophageal Squamous Cell Carcinoma in Response to Immunotherapy

open access: yesAnnals of Gastroenterological Surgery, EarlyView.
This study evaluated immune‐related biomarkers in esophageal squamous cell carcinoma treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors after postoperative recurrence. PD‐L1 expression in tumor‐associated macrophages and tumor cells, together with HLA class I downregulation and HLA‐DR expression, were associated with favorable responses to immunotherapy.

Beyond Eosinophilic Esophagitis: Eosinophils in Gastrointestinal Disease—New Insights, “New” Diseases

open access: yesJournal of the Canadian Association of Gastroenterology, 2023
Abstract Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a highly prevalent disorder. Upper endoscopy is normal, and according to the Rome IV criteria, there is no established pathology. Data accumulated over the last 15 years has challenged the notion FD is free of relevant pathology, and in particular, increased duodenal eosinophils have been observed ...

Integration of Nutrition and Organic Agriculture Framework in Managing Gastrointestinal Nematodes in Ruminants

open access: yesAnimal Research and One Health, EarlyView.
Gastrointestinal nematode infections damage the gastrointestinal epithelial tissues of ruminants, affecting nutrient utilization and overall production performance. This review outlines host‐gastrointestinal nematode interactions and discusses integrated control strategies, including nutritional supplementation, grazing management, vaccines, and ...
