Abstract The relatively short‐term effects of ridge subduction may be evaluated in the Peruvian region of the recent (4 and 5 Ma) arrival of the Nazca Ridge at the subduction interface. Such effects are superposed onto—and are mostly discernible from—those of a long‐term, Cretaceous to Miocene tectonic evolution.

A Deep Learning‐Based Method for Particle Size Distribution Analysis From TBM Rock Muck Images
Rock muck is a direct result of rock mass fragmentation during tunnel boring machine (TBM) excavation, and its morphological characteristics reflect the rock mass quality to some extent, offering a new technical approach for rock mass quality inversion and excavation parameter optimization.

Assessment methodology for clogging estimation and soil conditioning in EPB shields
During EPB shield tunnelling, clogging potential could be rather high in soils with high plasticity and at certain consistencies. If not mitigated, clogged material needs to be removed by sending workers inside the soil chamber, which is costly, potentially dangerous and time consuming. A simple methodology, which can be performed in the lab and on the

Surface settlement prediction for EPB shield tunneling in sandy ground
Ground volume loss induced by shield tunnel construction is the major factor leading to ground settlement and deformation. The general equations predicting surface settlement based on ground volume loss involve a settlement trough width coefficient (parameter i) which in previous models was set as a constant in both the transverse and longitudinal ...

Excavation Face Stability Analysis of EPB Shield in Half-Chamber Tunneling Mode
[Objective] In complex geological environments such as soft upper and hard lower or weathered rock layers, during the construction of EPB (earth pressure balance) full chamber tunneling mode, the slag liquid level is too high, the cutterhead generates ...
