Over the past 150 years since Virchow’s initial characterization of ependymoma, incredible efforts have been made in the classification of these tumors and in the care of pediatric patients with this disease. While the advent of modern neurosurgery and the optimization of radiation have provided significant gains, a more complex but incomplete picture ...

✓ A clinical and pathological survey of 74 histologically verified ependymomas (47 intracranial, 27 spinal) was derived from a total series of 2186 gliomas. Patient ages ranged from 7 months to 64 years. The malignant tumors above the tentorium tended to occur in patients over 22 years.

Two cases of extraspinal ependymoma are described. This is a low-grade tumor that recurs locally unless wide local excision is performed. It does metastasize, mainly to lymph nodes and lung. Its origin is likely from heterotopic ependymal cells called the coccygeal medullary vestige.

A 8-month-old girl had an ependymoma in the clivus, 2 X 6 cm in size, connected with the fourth ventricle by a cord of tissue 0.5 cm thick. There were no indications to make us suspect the origin of the tumour in the fourth ventricle, or that it was a case of ependymoma.

A systematic review of outcome in intramedullary ependymoma and astrocytoma.
Journal of clinical neuroscience, 2019The objective was to determine the impact of surgical resection and adjuvant therapies on survival in intramedullary ependymoma and astrocytoma. Secondary goals were to determine predictors of survival in surgical patients including histological grading,

This paper presents a rare case of intracrania ependymoma originating from the floor of third ventricle of a 12 year old girl. It manifested as a painless, progressively increasing swelling at the medial angle of left eye with proptosis which was without any extracranial metastasis.
