Mechanisms underpinning the progression of nondysplastic Barrett's oesophagus to cancer
Barrett's oesophagus confers a low but significant cancer risk. The condition is common but we do not have effective biomarkers to identify susceptible patients. We believe that there is no single factor that determines cancer risk and an understanding of the combinations of interactions (via gene expression and natural selection) between the Barrett's

Abstract Objectives We aimed to determine the prevalence of metabolic disorders, liver steatosis and metabolic dysfunction‐associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD) in a cohort of middle‐aged women with HIV (WoWH) and to explore associations between liver steatosis, visceral fat depots and carotid atherosclerosis.

Gender Justice in the Triple Planetary Crisis: A Scoping Review
ABSTRACT Aim To identify and report how gender justice is conceptualised and discussed in contemporary health literature in relation to the Triple Planetary Crisis of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss, with a particular focus on the experiences of women and gender‐diverse populations, and the representation of nurses and other healthcare ...

Serum miR‐224‐5p levels are progressively elevated in diabetic nephropathy (DN) and serve as an independent predictor of a decline in eGFR of ≥30% over 2 years. Mechanistically, miR‐224‐5p directly targets PTEN 3’‐UTR, suppressing PTEN and the activation of the AKT pathway in high‐glucose‐stimulated mesangial cells.

Consensus on energy‐based devices for keloids and hypertrophic scars: A Latin American Delphi study
Latin American Delphi consensus supports a sequential, multimodal approach to keloids and hypertrophic scars: vascular devices for early/inflammatory lesions; intralesional triamcinolone + 5‐fluorouracil and other injectable drugs for active scars; fractional lasers for texture; and pigment‐targeting therapies for dyschromia, prioritizing safety in ...

Postnatal developmental changes in the laryngeal chemosensory cell clusters of rats
Chemosensory cell clusters appeared in the rat larynx 2 days after birth and were already connected to afferent nerve fibers. Their number increased until 3 weeks of age, then stabilized while continuing to grow through the addition of new cells. Because their number reached a plateau around the time of weaning, their development may be linked to ...

Liver cirrhosis is associated with altered glucocorticoid metabolism related to disease severity
Abstract Background Liver cirrhosis (LC) is frequently complicated by adrenal dysfunction; however, whether cirrhosis drives the coordinated, pathway‐specific reprogramming of cortisol metabolism remains unclear. Objectives We aimed to characterize axis‐specific alterations in cortisol metabolism in patients with LC, those with adrenal insufficiency ...

Epi-convergent discretizations of multistage stochastic programs
In many dynamic stochastic optimization problems in practice, the uncertain factors are best modeled as random variables with an infinite support. This results in infinite-dimensional optimization problems that can rarely be solved directly. Therefore, the random variables (stochastic processes) are often approximated by finitely supported ones ...

Abstract A novel heterocytous Cyanobacterium, Ariadnema polymorpha gen. et sp. nov., was observed in the northern Brazilian Atlantic Forest (BAF), a globally significant biodiversity hotspot that has microbiome diversity yet to be explored. Isolated from ancient sugarcane mill ruins within the BAF, the new genus (strain CCAPE130) exhibits a unique ...
