Development and External Validation of an Efficient Deep Learning Model for Lesion Segmentation and Subtyping of Hepatic Echinococcosis in Ultrasound Imaging

open access: yesHealth Care Science, EarlyView.
We developed a lightweight deep learning framework that integrates frequency‐ and spatial‐domain ultrasound features with segmentation‐assisted classification for hepatic echinococcosis diagnosis. The model outperformed existing state‐of‐the‐art methods in both accuracy and inference speed while requiring substantially fewer computational resources ...

Effect of Austerity Measures on Infant Mortality: Evidence From Greece

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Governments frequently adopt austerity policies when facing economic crises, yet their long‐term consequences for population health remain incompletely understood. This paper examines the impact of large‐scale fiscal austerity on infant mortality by exploiting the Troika‐led economic adjustment program implemented in Greece beginning in 2010 ...

Creative Destruction, Economic Insecurity, Stress and Epidemic Obesity [PDF]

open access: yes
The percentage of Americans who are obese has doubled since 1980. Most attempts to explain this "obesity epidemic" have been found inadequate, including the "Big Two" (the increased availability of inexpensive food and the decline of physical exertion ...

Final epidemic size of a two-community SIR model with asymmetric coupling

open access: yes
Communities are commonly not isolated but interact asymmetrically with each other, allowing the propagation of infectious diseases within the same community and between different communities.

Policy Progress in Using Economic Policy Instruments to Improve Nutrition: Challenges and Opportunities

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Economic policy can be a powerful instrument to influence food environments and support improved diets and health. Over the past 20 years, the use of fiscal policy to improve diets has increased dramatically. This paper reviews the trajectory of policy change, and explores the ways in which research has informed three different dimensions of ...

Mathematical modeling of the spread of the coronavirus under strict social restrictions

open access: yesMathematical Methods in the Applied Sciences, EarlyView., 2021
We formulate a simple susceptible‐infectious‐recovery (SIR) model to describe the spread of the coronavirus under strict social restrictions. The transmission rate in this model is exponentially decreasing with time. We find a formula for basic reproduction function and estimate the maximum number of daily infected individuals.
