Printing‐Assisted Integration of Thermal, Fluidic and Electrical Components in Implants for Focal Brain Cooling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Extrusion‐based 3D printing of silicones and discrete electronic components are combined to create cortical implants for rodents that integrate thermal neuromodulation and electrical recording. Linked to an autonomous auxiliary driver unit, the system enables rapid, stable and localized hypothermia alongside ECoG recording.

An algorithm for seizure detection in rodents

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Epilepsy animal research often relies on long‐term intracranial electroencephalographic (iEEG) recordings. Here, we describe an artificial neural network (ANN) algorithm for automatic detection of seizures. Methods The algorithm was trained on iEEG recordings of three mouse models of chronic epilepsy: (1) the pilocarpine model of ...

Robot-driven epidural spinal cord stimulation compared with conventional stimulation in adult spinalized rats [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Epidural stimulation to trigger locomotion is a promising treatment after spinal cord injury (SCI). Continuous stimulation during locomotion is the conventional method.

Epidural Spinal Cord Stimulation Improves Motor Function in Rats With Chemically Induced Parkinsonism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
© The Author(s) 2019. Background. Epidural stimulation of the spinal cord can reorganize and change the excitability of the neural circuitry to facilitate stepping in rats with a complete spinal cord injury.

Characterization and applications of evoked responses during epidural electrical stimulation

open access: yes, 2023
Background Epidural electrical stimulation (EES) of the spinal cord has been FDA approved and used therapeutically for decades. However, there is still not a clear understanding of the local neural substrates and consequently the mechanism of action ...

Absence seizures: Update on signaling mechanisms and networks

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Absence seizures (AS) are a hallmark of genetic generalized epilepsies (GGE), characterized by brief episodes of impaired consciousness accompanied by electroencephalographic spike‐and‐wave discharges (SWDs). Traditionally attributed to cortico‐thalamo‐cortical (CTC) dysrhythmia, emerging evidence suggests a more intricate pathophysiological ...

Effect and safety of electroacupuncture analgesia at the latent stage of labor on the epidural analgesia

open access: yes针刺研究, 2020
Objective To investigate the effect of electroacupuncture(EA) analgesia at the latent stage of labor on epidural analgesia, labor outcome and neonatal score so as to provide the reference to the clinical labor analgesia.

Epilepsy surgery: From bench to the clinics

open access: yesEpilepsia Open, EarlyView.
Abstract Objective Recent advances in epilepsy surgery in patients with intractable epilepsy make it possible to study the mechanism of epilepsy in human brains. However, the true extent and propagation of each epileptogenic area from the epileptogenic focus in each patient is still difficult to perform “epilepsy cure” by surgery.

A narrative review on invasive brain stimulation for treatment-resistant depression

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Psychiatry, 2021
While most patients with depression respond to pharmacotherapy and psychotherapy, about one-third will present treatment resistance to these interventions.

Health and Economic Impacts of an Early Labor Induction Policy for High‐BMI Mothers

open access: yesHealth Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We expand the literature on marginal returns to birth interventions by studying a common intervention: early induction of labor for a growing share of pregnancies, high‐Body Mass Index (BMI) women. We exploit Danish guidelines which recommend routine induction at 7 days after the expected due date instead of 10–13 days after for mothers with a
