Thalamo‐Lesional Connectivity Signatures of Bilateral Tonic–Clonic Seizures in Focal Cortical Dysplasia‐Related Epilepsy

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objectives Focal cortical dysplasia (FCD) is the most common etiology of drug‐resistant epilepsy in children. Focal to bilateral tonic–clonic seizures (FBTCS) mark a high risk of drug‐resistant epilepsy and involve thalamocortical circuitry in their generation and propagation.

Issues related to differential diagnosis of epilepsy and narcolepsy

open access: yesЭпилепсия и пароксизмальные состояния
A differential diagnosis of epileptic and non-epileptic paroxysms is particularly difficult to conduct during a neurologist consultation. Narcolepsy is a chronic disease that causes excessive daytime sleepiness.

Melatonin and epileptic seizures in patients with acute intermittent porphyria

open access: yes, 2000
The objective of this study was to assess melatonin production in patients with acute intermittent porphyria (AIP), with and without known epileptic seizures, as a guide to whether melatonin may have anti-convulsive or pro-convulsive effects in AIP ...

Epidemiological, clinical and radiological characteristics of people with neurocysticercosis in Tanzania–A cross-sectional study

open access: yesPLoS Neglected Tropical Diseases, 2022
Background Neurocysticercosis (NCC) is common among people with epilepsy in low-resource settings. Prevalence of NCC and radiological characteristics of patients with NCC vary considerably even within small areas but differences have been poorly ...

EPILEPTIC SEZURES AS THE FIRST MANIFESTATION OF THE FRONTOPARIETAL ARTERIOVENOUS MALFORMATION OF THE BRAIN

open access: yesSanamed, 2019
Introduction: Arteriovenous malformations of the brain include a group of congenital disorders in the early development of arterial-venous blood vessels of the brain. Their clinical presentation is most common in the form of a brain hemorrhage, epileptic

Bias‐Field Free Single‐Frequency CW‐ODMR of Nitrogen‐Vacancy Centers in Diamond for the Detection of Transient Electrical Signals

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Simplified quantum sensing technique for the detection of short electrical signals occurring in neuronal signaling or bioinspired technologies. We demonstrate a single frequency continuous‐wave optically detected magnetic resonance (CW‐ODMR) approach to sense signals that can be as short as 0.2 ms.

Non-epileptic psychogenic seizures. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
editorial reviewedPsychogenic non-epileptic seizures resemble epileptic seizures but their pathophysiological mechanisms differ. Despite being quite frequent, they are often misunderstood, regularly leading to a misdiagnosis and therapeutic errors.

GPR124 Alleviates Blood–Brain Barrier Disruption by Enhancing Microvascular Endothelial Function after Traumatic Brain Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Our study reveals the protective role of GPR124 in maintaining BBB integrity and promoting neurological recovery following TBI. It makes a significant contribution by uncovering a novel molecular interaction between GPR124 and FGFBP1 and linking this to activation of the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway in vascular repair mechanisms.

Benign focal epilepsy of childhood with centrotemporal spikes (BECTS): clinical characteristics of seizures according to age at first seizure

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2002
BECTS is characterized by the presence of simple partial motor seizures in the face and/or oropharynx, with or without sensory symptoms and often with secondary generalization. These seizures tend to occur more often during sleep or drowsiness. According
