506 Fingerprinting the Epileptogenic Zone in RAVE
Neurosurgery, 2023INTRODUCTION: The treatment of drug-resistant epilepsy remains a significant challenge. Surgical resection of the epileptogenic zone (EZ) often offers the highest chance of seizure freedom. Grinenko et al. [Brain. 2018; 141(1):117–131] demonstrated that intracranial EEG (iEEG) data analysis can be used to identify a time ...

Localization of Epileptogenic Zone
Proceedings of the 2nd International Conference on Vision, Image and Signal Processing, 2018For a class of focal epileptic patients having drug-resistant epilepsy, resective surgery seems to be a valid option for treatment. In case of surgery, a minimum amount of cerebral cortex known as Epileptogenic Zone (EZ) will be removed to achieve seizure freedom.

Multimodal imaging signatures of the epileptogenic zone
ISMRM Annual Meeting, 2023Accurate detection of the epileptogenic zone for surgical planning often relies on stereo-electroencephalography, which is limited by low spatial sampling. Development of noninvasive brain high resolution imaging to better identify epileptogenic zone is of great value. This study aimed to investigate the imaging signature for detection of epileptogenic

Localizing the epileptogenic zone
Current Opinion in Neurology, 2020Purpose of review Epilepsy surgery is the therapy of choice for 30–40% of people with focal drug-resistant epilepsy. Currently only ∼60% of well selected patients become postsurgically seizure-free underlining the need for better tools to identify the epileptogenic zone.

The definition of the epileptogenic zone is a concept proposed by Jean Bancaud and Jean Talairach based on the anatomical, electrical and clinical correlations established from stereoelectroencephalographic recordings. They believed the epileptogenic zone to be the "region of the beginning and the primary organization" of ictal discharges.

High-Frequency-Oscillations (HFO) are biomarkers of the epileptogenic-zone (EZ) and thus a potential aid in guiding epilepsy-surgery. HFO are normally sub-divided according to their oscillating-frequency into Ripples (80-250 Hz) and Fast-Ripples (FR) (250-500 Hz) and are known to also occur in the non-epileptic brain. We address two challenges faced by

Localizing epileptogenic zones with high-frequency oscillations and directed connectivity
Seizure: European Journal of Epilepsy, 2023Precise localization of the epileptogenic zone (EZ) is essential for epilepsy surgery. Existing methods often fail to detect slow onset patterns or similar neural activities presented in the recorded signals. To address this issue, we propose a new measure to quantify epileptogenicity, i.e., the connectivity high-frequency epileptogenicity index (cHFEI)

The Stereo-Electroencephalography: The Epileptogenic Zone
Journal of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2016Summary: The stereo-electroencephalography (SEEG) methodology and technique was developed almost 60 years ago in Europe and it has proven its efficacy and safety over the last 55 years. The main advantage of the SEEG method is the possibility to study the epileptogenic neuronal network in its dynamic and tri-dimensional aspect, with an ...

On generalized notions of the Epileptogenic Zone
Neurophysiologie Clinique, 2018Objectives Contemporary interpretations of the Epileptogenic Zone (EZ) are rooted in static attributions of pathological properties to brain tissue, resulting in complex interpretations of the dynamic discharge properties. We wish to critically consider alternative EZ interpretations based on traveling discharge patterns.

Advances in Image Processing for Epileptogenic Zone Detection with MRI
Radiology, 2023Focal epilepsy is a common and severe neurologic disorder. Neuroimaging aims to identify the epileptogenic zone (EZ), preferably as a macroscopic structural lesion. For approximately a third of patients with chronic drug-resistant focal epilepsy, the EZ cannot be precisely identified using standard 3.0-T MRI.
