Scrub encroachment promotes biodiversity in temperate European wetlands under eutrophic conditions. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol, 2022
We examine the effects of encroachment on biodiversity along gradients of soil moisture and soil fertility in open and wooded wetlands in Denmark. Our results support existing knowledge of the importance of nutrient poor, wet mires and meadows for rare species but on former arable lands where restoration of infertile habitats is less feasible we ...

The effect of seasonal changes in mineral nutrition and secondary metabolism of Epipactis palustris (Orchidaceae) on the rhizosphere soil ecosystem

open access: yesRegulatory Mechanisms in Biosystems
Epipactis palustris (L.) Crantz is a rare orchid species whose ecological and biochemical strategies of adaptation remain insufficiently studied, despite its relevance for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem stability. This research aimed to investigate the seasonal changes in mineral nutrition, secondary metabolism, enzymatic activity ...

Developing and Validating Species Distribution Models for Wetland Plants Across Europe. [PDF]

open access: yesEcol Evol
We fitted species distribution models (SDMs) for 265 wetland plant species in Europe. We validated predicted occurrences using independent data. The SDMs showed a high predictive performance, such that our SDMs can be used to predict broad‐scale distributions of wetland plants.

The impact of extraction method and pollen concentration on community composition for pollen metabarcoding. [PDF]

open access: yesAppl Plant Sci
Abstract Premise Plants and pollinators closely interact with each other to form complex networks of species interactions. Metabarcoding of pollen collections has recently been proposed as an advantageous method for the construction of such networks, but the extent to which diversity and community analyses depend on the extraction method and pollen ...

Conservation Status of the Family Orchidaceae in Spain Based on European, National, and Regional Catalogues of Protected Species. [PDF]

open access: yesScientificWorldJournal, 2018
This report reviews the European, National, and Regional catalogues of protected species, focusing specifically on the Orchidaceae family to determine which species seem to be well‐protected and where they are protected. Moreover, this examination highlights which species appear to be underprotected and therefore need to be included in some catalogues ...
